Q: For those having problems with the iOS 9.3 update please read...

So many people are having problems with the update to iOS 9.3 and the questions are flooding the iOS support forums now. I am hoping that by consolidating some of the information available, it will help some of you without starting hundreds of new threads all asking about the same things.

Please do not shoot the messenger if you already know all of this. I am just trying to help by providing some information To the community. Theses problems are well known, Apple has acknowledged them and is reportedly working on a fix that should be out soon.

Here are some tech site articles that explain the problems if any of you are interested in reading them. They are in no particular order other than what my most recent Google search turned up for me.

This one contains some suggestions that might actually help some of you.

Apple posted these support articles a couple of days ago and they might help some of you as well

If you can't activate your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch after installing iOS 9.3 - Apple Support

If you can’t activate your iPad 2 (GSM model) after you update to iOS 9.3 - Apple Support

If nothing suggested works for you right now, you will just have to be patient (remember that "please don't shoot the messenger" thing from above ) and wait until Apple issues the fixed software update.

Your experience is very similar to mine. I updated my iPad Air 2 and iPhone 5s  on the initial release date and haven't had any problems at all. Yes, if you download and install the new update, it will overwrite the software on the device. I too am shaking my head over this situation and wondering why I would get a notification on my phone, but not on my iPad.

My advice is to wait it out a few more days. I know I'm not ready to install this update, especially after seeing this on 9to5mac.com this morning.

I just do not trust this build yet.

i don't want to mess up my Air since leaving next week and am a good distance from an Apple store.  I want to upgrade to an Ipad Pro but was wanting to wait until Fall for second gen so don't want to do anything to screw this one up yet.  I'm sitting tight--have found nothing on any tech blog about this new 9.3 version being sent out.

How did you delete the new 9.3 once it was downloaded?  I've been looking for a delete method since my original 9.3 seems fine, been running it a week.

I didn't have a chance to make the decision.  Mine was downloaded this morning.  Need to check if I can set for not automatic download of updates.  i do have no automatice updates for apps, prefer to see what's what before updating,

Settings>General>Storage & iCloud Usage>Storage>Manage Storage. Let the list of apps, photos, etc. load. Swipe until you find it in the list and then delete it.

Since the Apple Store fixed my ipad, I have not received any additional notifications. It's odd some of you have and other have not. It sounds like a Goat Rodeo in their tech department.

It is very odd indeed. I have no intention of updating again until I know more about what is going on.

LIndal2000 what version of IOS are you on and what version of Ipad?  I would have assumed they would have put latest IOS version on but then it depends upon when you had Ipad repaired what it is.

I don't think some of my friends or family that have older Ipads have gotten notifications either-or maybe ignored them, that doesn't surprise me LOL.  I didn't get notification of original 9.3, just knew it was available day it came out and went to general/software update to see if available for me and then downloaded and installed.  This second version of 9.3 surprised me as being downloaded already this morning.  For this one I got the badge on my settings app so knew something was up.

Just to follow up with the “Unable to Verify Update” due to the so called problem of being “no longer connected to the internet”; as I previously noted on the is thread:

    • My iPhone 5 and iPad 2 updated last week without any issues and are still showing version 13E233 without any new versions notifications being pushed to it. Everything is working fine.
    • My other family member’s iPhone 5, iPad Mini and iPod Touch are still showing the notification “Unable to Verify Update” - “iOS 9.3 failed verification because you are no longer connected to the internet”, “Try Again” or “Try Later”. (Note: the internet is working fine and all devices are connected to it. This seemed to happened when Apple pulled the update after it had already pushed it out to the device.)
    • Another iPad 2 never received the pushed update and was still showing: “iOS 9.2.1 – Your Software is up to date” w/o any new software updates.
    • With the iPod Touch, last week I unsuccessfully attempted to force the update through iTunes on my MAC, but it showed: “iOS 9.2.1 – Your Software is up to date” even though the device was still showing a new update in Settings. Overnight, the iPod touch must have attempted again to update as it showed this morning the same failure notification: “Unable to Verify Update”.

So here’s the Good News with this “Unable to Verify Update” issue. After seeing this failure notification this morning, I was successfully able to get the iPod Touch to update to iOS 9.3 using iTunes on my MAC. The size of the update was 1.5 GB. It would seem that if the device is still stuck in this “Unable to Verify Update” loop using wifi, then the only way to go around this issue is through iTunes. I will attempt to update the other devices and give an update later this week.

I have the iPad Air 2. I also have the iPhone 6. No problems with the  iPhone so far. I have my settings set to notify, but not auto download. Normally I wait a while to update, but didn't this time, and the bad joke was on me.

If the setting you are referring to is the one under Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Automatic Downloads > Updates....  that setting is for App updates only, i.e., you can prevent Apps from downloading and updating automatically. Regardless of that settings, the iOS updates download automatically (most of the time) if you are connected to power and on Wi-Fi. To my knowledge there is no way of preventing iOS updates from auto downloading. The update can be deferred however, one does not have to install it.   What a mess...

    Update:

I left my iPhone 5 charging all night and on Wi-Fi to see what happened. As of 10 am CDT no update shows up on my phone even though it is on 13E233. Hard to fathom why your 5S wants an update and my 5 does not. Like you, I will do nothing. My two iPad Airs also on 13E233 want an update also, presumably to 237 but no way to tell. I don't understand the lack of consistency among devices. Who knows, by tomorrow we may have 239.
