Q: iOS 9.3 - Safari/Mail freezes after clicking links on iPhone 6S

Hi,

Never had any problems with my iPhone 6S. Just upgraded to iOS 9.3 without any issues. After the upgrade, I can't click links when searching something on Google in Safari or clicking a link in the Mail, the apps just freeze.

I tried clearing Safari history data/cache, closing all apps and restarting the phone (both regular and holding both home/power key), disabling all sorts of settings form Safari settings, but no luck.. Anyone with an idea how to sort it out?

I have got the same with iPhone 6. Updated at Friday to iOS 9.3. Cannot open any links in email and Safari. Very frustrating. I spoke with Apple support at Sunday. They have no solution. Only advice from Apple to  turn off Java. They will call to me when they will have solution... really Apple?? My Android friends they laugh very loudly. They have a very big argument to make fun of the iPhone is hard to disagree with them. Very disappointed... Please do something!

now we know there is an issue with the  9.3 update especially for iPhone 6s and 6s plus owners, so we  need a solution . Apple should set A date for the new software update release  to fix this issue and we should be informed  .  the sooner the better..

Same problem here, any web page link in mail thats calls on Safari freezes Mail. All links clicked from the FB page (in Safari, not the App) freezes Safari also. Most other links, but not all, clicked from a web page in Safari works (70%?). That is on my iPhone 6S (9,3) and on iPad (also 9,3). Other iOS devices are on 9,2,1 and have no problem. Level 1 Apple support gave me generalities and false advice. Level 2 expert give me more pertinent, but useless, advice and finally gave up after 2 hours on the phone to tell me that Apple is investigating... Workaround : Chrome for IOS for web and TypeApp which is in fact quite interesting and a possible long terme replacement for Mail IOS... But waiting for a new version.

I start having this kind of problem with ios 9.2.1 and my 6plus one month ago.

I went to the Genius Bar two times, and after cheking the phone and the reinstallation of the ios they told me that the problem were in my backup data, so I have to start using iphone as new iphone.

INCREDIBLE!!! AND WATH ABOUT MY DATA?????

For same reason, fortunately,  I've found a one month old itunes backup and, even if I've lost e a lot of data, the iphone restart working fine.

Surprisingly, one day after the release of ios 9.3, the iphone freeze again.

I use iphone for my work too, so I was ready to go to GB again (I have an appointment for Wednesday afternoon) and leave iphone there!!!!

For the first time from 3GS (and I've had all the others) I have a problem that makes my phone unusable for days!!!!

Hope in very fast solution.....Galaxy 7 edge is very very close....

Try go to settings, safari, clear history and website data. Then, go to advanced and disable the Java Script. Fonts in Safari may look different but works on my iPhone 6sPlus

    Olá Amigos,

Sou do Brasil, tenho um iPhone 5S e estou com mesmo problema.

Única alternativa até agora que encontrei foi desativar java-script no safari.

    Estou aguardando uma nova atualização.

Hi, this is my firts post here. I hope you can help me. The problem discussed here is exactly what happens with my one year old iphone 6. But, the problem occured already since friday evening, three days before I installed the update?!? I was hoping that with installing the update yesterday evening the problem will be solved. Is it possible, that the update affected my iphone already before the installation?

    Hi,

OFF: Sorry but I cannot agree with you. Yes, there is a problem! BUT I came from Android to iOS just because I wanted to use something which WORK but not like crappy android... I am on iOS from December 2015. And either that bug I do not think to go back to Android soon. If you are using from 3GS and one bug (yes, it is a big BUG!) can urge to move to Android than trust me you will move from Android to iOS quicker.   But I do not want to convert that thread in comparison ! Because they are just different OSs.

    Seriously, Apple, fix that!

    Hi,

I followed exactly the steps from here; https://infinitediaries.net/how-to-fix-ios-9-x-safarimail-link-bug/ and the problem went away. There are a good description of the problem here; https://bencollier.net/2016/03/unable-to-open-links-in-safari-mail-or-messages-o n-ios-9-3/

If you don't want to use iTunes for syncing the booking.app, you can use xcode. Open xcode and choose window->devices. Then choose your i-device and press the '+' button under installed apps.

This problem happens on my iPad - that I HAVEN'T updated.  It started happening about 1 week ago.  This was after I deleted a bunch of apps and did a new sync.  So I was hoping the new update would solve the problem but haven't taken time to do the update.  Now with all of these posts I see that it isn't the upgrade that will fix it or that caused it.  My iPhone 6 does not have the problem and I have not updated it.  I'm not going to update until the new update comes out.  But in the mean time my iPad is pretty useless.  I can't open any links from email or a Safari search.  Very frustrating!  But again - this is NOT the newest version so there's something more to the story.

Any case I have the problem, but iPhone never freezes, only Mail when trying to open a link.  In this case just double click home button and close Mail.  All other functions in iPhone are still working.  So it's not a fatal error in IOS but a link error.

Finally it seems there is some reactions from Apple:

Same issue with iPad air Gen. 1 - but problem with IOS 9.2.1 - bug apperaed suddenly on Sunday ... so is can not only be related with 9.3. upgrade!

Safari bug can be fixed with deactivating Safari-Proposals and Java Script.

Problem with Links from Mails with Mail App is still continuing - if one presses a link in an email the Mail app freezes ...

I do not dare to update mit iPhone 6 untill this bug is fixed!

Thanx! It did cure the problem in Safari. However it did not fix similar problems in other apps.

I have the same issue.  iPad won't work but iPhone works fine.  NEITHER have the new update.  But recently I did delete a bunch of apps and created a new sync.  After reading many of these posts I don't believe it has anything to do with the update at all but rather something to do with the Booking, com app.  Which I don't have on my phone but do (or did) have on my iPad.
