Q: My Macbook Air keeps restarting, and I receive a multi-lingual message saying:  "You're computer restarted because of a problem."

My MacBook Air keeps restarting - up to several times a day - all on its own. I receive a message that says "You're computer restarted because of a problem."  This may have something to do with installing Final Draft 9 a few months ago; I'm not sure. I'm not great with technology and would appreciate any help!

Does uninstalling Final Draft do any good ?

I haven't tried that. Do you mean as a diagnosis, because I need Final Draft for work so I cannot permanently de-install ...

No, sure, just to see where the problem is.

Unfortunately, if uninstalling does solve the issue, you're kind of out of options...

It appears that the MBA has had kernel panics.  Use these instructions to log and post the last one:

    Ciao.

I hope I did this correctly:  there were four or five instances of the re-start today, but I only found this one log. For what it's worth, I was not in safe mode (I don't even know what that is) and I was running safari and email and NOT Final Draft ...

It's very late here in France so I'm going to bed, so if I don't reply right away, please know it's not indifference - just the need for sleep!  Thanks!

Download and run this check then copy and past the results here - its recommended my quite a few posters here and will give a better view of what is going on with your mac.

That kind of panic may be caused by a bug in OS X, or else by a hardware fault. I suggest that you upgrade to the current version ("El Capitan") in the App Store and see whether the panics stop.

Before upgrading, check that all your most important third-party software is up to date and compatible with the current OS X. Very old versions of Microsoft and Adobe products, for example, may not be compatible. The developer's website is the best source for that information.

Incompatible third-party software causes almost all problems with OS X upgrades.

Finally, back up all data, and be sure you know how to restore if you don't like the results of the upgrade.

If you have a spare storage device with enough capacity, you can copy the startup volume to it in Disk Utility, then start up from it and upgrade. Then, if you don't like the results, all you have to do is change the setting in the Startup Disk preference pane and restart.
