Q: iOS 9.3 - Safari/Mail freezes after clicking links on iPhone 6S

Hi,

Never had any problems with my iPhone 6S. Just upgraded to iOS 9.3 without any issues. After the upgrade, I can't click links when searching something on Google in Safari or clicking a link in the Mail, the apps just freeze.

I tried clearing Safari history data/cache, closing all apps and restarting the phone (both regular and holding both home/power key), disabling all sorts of settings form Safari settings, but no luck.. Anyone with an idea how to sort it out?

SOme people can't really do that since we use OTA backup to icloud...

I stopped using a pc to do my backups years ago because I keep changing laptops practically every month or so (work related, gotta keep up with the latest and greatest tech) and I was just chewing through my activated devices faster than apple could release them.

This debacle only accentuates the truth, sonce SJ died, Apple is taking too many shortcuts and using its users to become testers like Microsoft was doing a couple years ago. I am really thinking about switching to windows phone or even android if this issue isn't solve THIS WEEK!!

I have lost en contracts and money as it is now. Either apple cover my loss from today until they find a solution or they offer us a big rabate/compasation for all the problems that this has caused us!

Okay, let’s stop with the caterwauling and “very annoying” comments. Of course it is. Apple has acknowledged the issue and will be releasing iOS 9.3.1 soon according to their press release. Piling on isn’t going to make it happen any sooner. Every reputable tech website has been reporting Apple’s response to this issue today. Keep your shirts on, open a cold beer, sit back and relax.

I hope this brings someone some solice. I've been plagued by this since the 9.3 update too. I've managed to get my iPhone working again by deleting the booking.com app, closing all of my apps and resetting my network settings in Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings.

After that, Chrome, Safari, iMessages and Mail links work again.

This was the worst update ever in history of ios. This is the biggest mistake of apple. RIP Steve.

Btw you dont need to write your troubleshooting steps, there is no solution except waiting for new update.

Really i can not understand this mistake of programmers.

The hyperlink and freeze problem is not related to 9.3 update. I got it on my iPhone 6 a couple of days before 9.3 was available. I expected the 9.3 would cure it, but it didn't

how many more have to post before Apple admit there is a problem?

unable to even log a complaint with Apple because that needs a link to work on safari.

oonly able to post this by using a mates iPad that has not been updated.

Nope, I have a iPhone 6 and it's exactly what I have been experiencing with 9.3. Links simply freeze the system, anywhere (Mail, Safari, Chrome...). Let's hope this is fixed, and soon.

    Try this workaround:

1- restore the phone to an earlier back up

2- on the first start after restoration, it will start downloading all the apps that you had previously

3- find Booking app and remove it before it starts downloading

this is based on the assumption that Booking is the rogue app that breaks the system. Works for me.

    Good luck

Let's be clear that this is not just an iPhone 6s problem.  My iPhone 6 is having the same problems:

    1. Clicking a link in any Apple Mail document just freezes the whole phone--- meaning you need to close Mail before it releases its grip.

    2. And in any browser, in this case Chrome or Safari, choosing a link by 'long clicking' will allow you to open a second tab to see the link--- but only after you go to the top of the screen and choose the 'overlapping windows' icon which will expose the open tabs.  The one you want is 'blank' at the bottom of the queue.

This has gone on way too long!  People have had problems ever since they downloaded 9.3-- and that was nearly weeks ago!  Where's the service, people?  We aren't asking for the moon, like the Feds are in asking for the can opener to the iPhone!  Just fix the bug and issue an update already!  Thanks!

Somebody asked if this was impacting phones earlier than the 6S. I'm having the same problems of freezing with an iPhone 6 Plus. Unfortunately before finding this thread I started restoring my phone, including recopying around 3,500 songs. Aargh!
