Q: iOS 9.3 - Safari/Mail freezes after clicking links on iPhone 6S

Hi,

Never had any problems with my iPhone 6S. Just upgraded to iOS 9.3 without any issues. After the upgrade, I can't click links when searching something on Google in Safari or clicking a link in the Mail, the apps just freeze.

I tried clearing Safari history data/cache, closing all apps and restarting the phone (both regular and holding both home/power key), disabling all sorts of settings form Safari settings, but no luck.. Anyone with an idea how to sort it out?

WE need to let people know about this thread. The larger the number that report the issue the more likely it is to bolster Apples efforts to resolve it. I'm sure we are only a small percentage of the impacted people that have the issue.

USe twitter, FB or whatever. Have people speake up.

    FIx please.

    Dear Friend,

    Please use this following link

    https://bencollier.net/2016/03/how-to-fix-ios-9-3s-broken-safari-links/

*please disable all your internet connection on your mac or pc*

It's fix the issue on my phone, I can confirmed that only booking.com that causing this bug *so far*. Some of the forum mention other apps (trip advisor) causing but I doubt that is the case.

The only reason why it can work is because booking.com has made a patch on 29 March 2016 to fix this issue.

    Regards,

OK folks.. I have the issue too.  It is a pain.. But I also work in software development (not at Apple.)  It is easy to see why a beta didn't catch this anomaly.

I am sure there are people at Apple pulling all nighters to fix this.

Please stop insulting the Apple team.  They do an amazing job.  Software is hard.

Spoke with them last night. As a temporary fix I had to turn off Java script and do a soft shut down. The links now work in safari only and no where else such as in email. They told me to hang tight for now.

It's not booking.com. I've never had that app and I have the problem.

    Yes, I agree.

Apple should sent out notices to all iphone users not to download nor install the ios9.3 until the bugs are fixed.

At the same time, to let all users who have inadvertently downloaded/updated their phones to wait for them to resolve the problems and will

notify us as soon as its ready.

By doing so, at least we know that Apple is working on it.

I think Samsung phones have bigger problems than this. Each time I meet someone who has got one, they say It's slow and full of bugs and they have to pay someone who will reset it. Maybe you'll wait your contract will be up, then return to iPhone.

The OS are complex and are released in a hurry, beta releases aren't enough to test all the functions, that increase more and more.

I think that Apple should make the choice (courageous) to reduce the frequency of releases and test better each release. In the long run, according to me, the customers would be more satisfied.

On my iPad Retina I received a new IOS 9.3 availability notice and installed it hoping for an improvement.

The installation worked fine (it was earlier prevented) but the effect of it did not correct the Mail link problem, sadly!

So now I'm on 9.3 instead of 9.2.1 with the problem still on.

I did have the same problem with my iPad 128GB from late 2013 even before updating to 9.3. The problem came one-two days before... And 9.3 did not resolve the issue.

This has worked for me. I have other Apple devices and thus my data is stored and can be accessed using them, if you have one device only this may not be a solution for you as you will lose some of your data.

I have had the same problem with my iPhone 6S since installing IOS 9.3 as thousands of others: Safari freezes and Mail freezes when clicking on links. I tried many of the workarounds suggested on this thread including wiping, restoring from both iTunes and iCloud, removing booking disabling Safari suggestions, javascript etc. I also tried the “How to fix iOS 9.x Safari/Mail link Bug (Updated)’ on Infinitediaries.net,  but nothing worked for me.

I have three other Apple devices:

MacBook Pro running El Capitan 10.11.4

    Ipad 4 IOS 9.2.1 (13D15)

    iPhone 4s  IOS 9.2.1 (13D15)

These are unaffected although my Macbook did have the Safari freeze problem when I first updated to El Capitan. The workaround that time was to disable Safari suggestions. This glitch was sorted in subsequent updates.

In desperation I finally decided to wipe my iPhone 6s and set it up as a new phone using my original Apple ID and password. It is  relatively simple process though time consuming but afterwards I could search on Safari and links in Mail worked.  Once my phone was verified I re-downloaded my apps from the App store one by one, checking after each download that everything was working. On some of the Apps I have lost data but the level of frustration that has caused me is nothing compared to how I have been feeling for the last five days.

I have now synced  my phone with iTunes on my MacBook and  also iCloud and everything seems to be working ok. I have not re-download booking yet but many others have suggested that this glitch has now  been sorted by the booking developers. I will wait for Apple to acknowledge there is a problem with 9.3 and issue an update before I install   anything else.

For the last 24 hours this has worked for me. Hope it helps somebody out there.

But Apple, this is just not good enough.
