Q: I have an airport extreme base in my home. I also have an airport express in my garage. The wi-fi signal in the garage for the last couple of days has been very weak or almost none existent . I want to soft reset the base station . WHAT ABOUT THE GARAGE ?

HI ALL. I have an Airport Extreme base station in my home. Also have an Airport Express in my garage for an extented wi -fi signal. For the last couple of days the signal in the garage has been very weak or none existent. I am constantly in the garage as I have it set up as my man cave. Any way, i'm about to try a soft reset on the base station in the house. Apple says to just press the reset button in for a moment. And if I do nothing else it will revert to its previous settings. Witch is what i would like. But they don't in specify any information, that I could find, on weather to reset the unit in the garage. if any one has some experiance with this type of set up, I would appreciate any advice....Thanks

    Have you checked to make sure that the AirPort Express in the garage is actually extending the network?  You can find out quickly by temporarily powering off the AirPort Express.

     

    If the signal is the same when then AirPort Express is powered off, then you know that the AirPort Express is not operating correctly.....and the issue now must focus on the AirPort Express.

     

    Are you using a Mac laptop with a recent operating system?  If yes, there are some other checks that we need to make on your network to be able to see where things stand at the present time.

     

    Performing a Soft Reset on the AirPort Extreme should not be necessary, unless you suspect that the AirPort Extreme is not operating correctly.  If you can connect to the AirPort Extreme when the AirPort Express is temporarily powered off during your "test" above, then you know the AirPort Extreme is operating correctly.
