as soon as it updated, it opened and there were clouds by every single album. I went to my documents and I see the songs are indeed downloaded, so if I click the cloud it will download a duplicate. I now wonder if I'm missing music and have no idea how to get it back to normal

Hey MrFleharty,

If you recently updated iTunes and the songs don't seem to be linked, you might benefit from restoring the previous version of iTunes database file. Take a look at the article below as it will go into locating the Previous iTunes Library files and then restore the previous library file that was there before you updated iTunes.
