Q: Compass calibration GPS usage everytime unlock phone!

Hi!

Here is what I found: everytime I unlock my iPhone 6s with ios 9.0.2 the location icon ALWAYS comes up. I went over and over in location services section and The compass calibration icon is marked. This happens every time...  Is This normal? Is this necessary? Do I really need to calibrate the compass even when not using it? I'm sure uses battery for something that I don't need every single time...

Many thanks in advance for your help!

    1. It means that the compass needs to know where it is so it can set the magnetic declination correctly (the difference between true and magnetic north). This is used by the compass itself, and also by mapping apps

    2. It doesn't know where you have moved since the previous time you woke it up, but you also don't know the last time it was used, except that it was within the past 24 hours

    3. See 1

    4. The compass will not accurately show true north, and mapping applications will not be able to orient the map with respect to true north.

Note also that it is NOT on all the time; the gray arrow means that it has been used within the last 24 hours. It does not mean that it is used every time you wake the phone. It also doesn't use a measurable amount of power, so it doesn't really affect anything whether it's on or off.

For those who this problem still persists, the following fixed it for me (iPhone 6S):

Go to Settings --> General -->(down in the bottom) Reset --> Locations (Reset to Default)
