What version of OS X is installed on your computer? You posted this question in the Yosemite Forum.
I suspect that you have a bluetooth mouse.
From personal experience, that happens to me quite often when the batteries get below the 20% mark. Click the mouse a couple of times after restart to prod it to be recognized.

Mar 30, 2016 9:04 PM in response to Ferd IIby spinningstill,Yea, sorry, realized its in Yosemite. I'm using El Capitan and my track pad has 52%. Its only happened on the new iMac recently. Thank you, will look at the mouse troubleshooting suggestions or call Apple.
