Second. If it can be updated but you can't do it over the air you need to use iTunes on your computer to do it.

Since your iOS is so old (more than three years), I assume your iMac's software may well be very old also.
In order to upgrade to iOS 9, you need a reasonably current version of iTunes. Current iTunes is 12.3.3. (You need at least iTunes 12.3.2 to continue.)
Using an iTunes this current requires at least OS X 10.8.5. (Current is OS X 10.11.4.)
Make sure you have recent enough iTunes and recent enough OS X before starting to upgrade iOS.
