Q: iOS 9.3 - Safari/Mail freezes after clicking links on iPhone 6S

Hi,

Never had any problems with my iPhone 6S. Just upgraded to iOS 9.3 without any issues. After the upgrade, I can't click links when searching something on Google in Safari or clicking a link in the Mail, the apps just freeze.

I tried clearing Safari history data/cache, closing all apps and restarting the phone (both regular and holding both home/power key), disabling all sorts of settings form Safari settings, but no luck.. Anyone with an idea how to sort it out?

    Hi All,

I also have an iPhone Plus and have updated to iOS9.3.

Originally, both Safari links AND Mail links did nothing when you clicked them.

    Would also freeze system.

I want to Settings->Safari->Advanced->and switched OFF JavaScript.

This made Safari's Links work - excellent!

I went to my Mail - the links in Mail still DON'T work - very frustrating!!

The weird thing is that my wife has the exact same phone - has just updated (3-days after I did the update) & she doesn't have the problem.

Not sure if her version of iOS9.3 was modified/bug free.

    I'm at a loss.

Apple, please help your customers or we'll all have to turn to Samsung?

    What are we to do?????

    Cheers

Really disappointed by Apple's lack of customer care (in terms of responding to people as well as resolving the issue).  Expect this from Microsoft but not them so is it an inability to fix the problem (doubtful) or just plain arrogance in that they believe we'll just hang around like puppets?

I was in the process of purchasing a Macbook Pro but decided to hold off once this problem surfaced just to see Apple's determination to resolve serious glitches.  Glad I did and will now shop elsewhere as well as look for a non-Apple phone once my contract runs out.  Keep it up Apple - your arrogance will, one day, be your undoing I suspect.

SAme issue on iphone 6 plus and on ipad mini 4. I had the public beta progile installed, but did not install the beta itself. The safari problem workaround i ise is opera mini browser. But email links, safari and app links are useless.

Have the same problem on ipad air but with 9.2.1, very frustrating that Apple is not able to provide a fix with all their money and resources.

My workaround: Installed Dolphin browser and run it in desktop mode so I can use google, links are working BUT does not fix hyperlinks issue in mail.

iPhone 6s, still running 9.2.1 - never upgraded to 9.3.  Had Booking.com installed.  Overnight two days ago, without my touching the iPhone at all, hyperlinks became unresponsive in Safari, Mail and iMessage.  Uninstalled Booking.com, turned off Javascript, rebooted, hard reset - still not working.   Setting search engine in Safari to Bing works, even with Javascript turned on.  Mail and iMessage hyperlinks still not working.  Downloaded CloudMail temporarily to get mail links back - they work.

However this is all such time wasting stuff and I have a life to live    So I just put my sim card back into my iPhone 5s running 9.2.1 which has never had Booking.com installed, and all is working just fine on that.  But I'd like to have my 6s back in proper working order.

Sorry not to add anything hopeful to this thread, but just really posting so that Apple become aware that thousands of us have this issue and hopefully do something quickly.  But it doesn't sound like an easy fix.

From Italy iPhone 6 Plus: hyperlinks do not work on Safari, Mail, WhatsApp, Viber and more, and when you try the applications freeze. It is a bad situation. I'm very surprised of this problem. What's happening?????. The problem is interesting many italian customers see:

Thanks for this information which is very interesting and proves my previous argument on this thread a few days ago that Apple was aware of the problem but still chose to launch 9.3 when it did, knowing that people wouldn't be able to click links.

In essence, there was absolutely no point whatsover in you being of assistance in testing the beta versions and providing valuable feedback which Apple then chose to ignore.  Utterly inept.

    It's really a Big Mess!

Here @Apple Italy Support 1st level they do not know nothing.

This situation is really frustrating and after many years of regular use with no issue, this make me change Idea.

Why they haven't test it before?

Please remember that 9.3 has no any significant improvement.

Hope they will fix it soon but as you may see, after 5 days of troubling no any update yet out.

Gente de apple, qué casualidad que tras lanzar un nuevo iphone lancen un IOS con semejante error. Revisen a sus desarrolladores para que no produzcan semejante caos, será intencional? Además su solución debería darse ante la primer queja y aún no hay respuesta.

I just spoke to Apple Support here in Sweden. They told me that they are all too aware of the problem and that it is a bug in IOS 9.3.

Apple Support said that Apple is working intensively on the problem and that an update will be released "any moment now". I told them that I hope this won't take days and they reiterated that the update will be released any moment now. In the meantime they advised me to deactivate Javascript om Safari. It is not a solution, of course but a temporary workaround.

shame on Apple. This 9.3 update is the worst ever.  I have the 6s+ and the update has basically made my phone useless.  Links don't work in almost every app.  Safari doesn't work doesn't work at all know. The phone freezes and at many time the touchscreen is completely unresponsive.  FB has issues now, even chrome.  9.3 is like phone cancer.  Thanks apple, my phone has cancer now.
