Q: Where is everything?

And I mean everything!

I clicked on Photos on the dock.

Photos appeared in the bar at the top ...but that is it!

No window opened, nothing on the screen, at all!

When I scroll down any of the menu items in Photos just about all of them are greyed out (Preferences; everything under File except Export and the choices from that are greyed out; everything under edit except font, spelling & emojis; everything under Image except location; everything under View except metadata and Sort; everything under Windows except photos - which gives me a blank window; everything under Help except photos which gives me a blank screen.

An April Fools joke??

Any ideas??

I am on an iMac OS X El Capitan 10.11.4

Photos 1.5

Mac OS X (10.6.5)

    Have you already tried to restart your Mac?  If not, try that first.

    everything under Windows except photos - which gives me a blank window;

    Quit Photos, if it is running and hold down the options key while launching Photos again.  This should bring up  Library Chooser panel.   If you are seeing a different Photos Library listed, try that.  If there are no other libraries, select to create a new library.   Can Photos open a new library?

    if not, restart your Mac in safe mode and try again.   See this support document:   Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode
