What about when you remember your password and iTunes doesn't?  Now I have to wipe my phone and start all over again because I can't do backups to my Mac anymore.  That's a pretty poor customer experience for something I'm not doing wrong.

Computers do not make mistakes like this.

Remember, we're talking about the password to your encrypted backup in iTunes.

Since you have a Mac, you could have saved your backup's password in your Keychain, but sounds like you didn't do that.  Just to confirm, you realize that your backup's password is not linked to any other password, right?  It is its own independent password, and set by you as a completely separate activity than setting up or changing your Apple ID or iCloud password.  So, perhaps you used the same password that you used for your Apple ID once upon a time, and have since changed that one, but that does not change your backup's password ... so have you tried old passwords that you may have changed?

Actually computers do make mistakes like this.  I've had to call the help desk at work on many occasions for them to reset the password that I use multiple times a day.  Computers aren't perfect.  That's another reason why companies use the security questions to help their customers, while opening up the door to the bad folks.

You're correct rockmyplimsoul, I didn't save it to my keychain and I probably should have.  But it was one password that I didn't think I would have to worry about.  I took a suggestion from a tech writer and used the same passcode that I use to unlock my phone, since I can't forget that.  But when that didn't work I did try my AppleID password, as well as my Mac's password just in case.  There's no other password that I would have used.

    Thanks for the suggestions though.
