Q: ios 9.3.1 on ipad air2 "! Activation Required"

having bought  second hand ipad air 2 last week, and having no problems until last night. I have updated to the new ios9.3.1 and since then have been unable to get it working.

keep going through the activation setup screens for it to keep reverting back to "! Activation Required". I have tried using icloud to delete and remove it, I have updated through iTunes by connecting to the computer and holding the home button and tried both the update and restore to wipe it but nothing is working.

I hear that this was a problem for the 9.3 update and the 9.3.1 was to rectify this issue but it would appear it has had the opposite effect.

this was factory reset by the Ebay shop prior to me purchasing it and it was setup to my account with no problems until this dreaded update.

Please  help

If you have gone through all of the steps in this support document, I would contact Apple. There is a link at the bottom of this page that you can click on to get to support.

When you are asked to sign in to your Apple ID you are provided a hint to the Apple ID required for activation. Does that hint relate to your Apple ID? If not the iPad may be Activation Locked.

If you are trying to activate an iPad or iPhone and it is asking for a previous owners Apple ID and password, you have encountered the Activation Lock. This is a security feature that prevents thieves from setting up and using a stolen or lost iPad or iPhone. You have no alternative. You must contact the previous owner to get permission to use the device. If you cannot contact the previous owner return the device to where you bought it and get a refund. You will never be able to activate the device and no one can help you do it.

    Hi Ralph,

I have finally worked out the problem, it got caught in an activation lock due to sim card still being in the slot from the previous owner.

once I removed that and rebooted it let me straight in, I had not even realised about the sim being in the slot as we only got it with 4G facility for when we go on hols.

That was an interesting 7 hours ......

    Thanks for the assistance

I was excited, SBK, because that sounded like a good solution that I hadn't seen elsewhere... but no luck.

I removed the old SIM and it still wouldn't work.

Trying other options now (from removing it from my iCloud list of Find My iPad devices... to, if that doesn't work, another full restore).
