Q: Hi, My SEND button has disappeared from my Apple Mail & proceeding to VIEW Customise toolbar brings up the dialogue box with no SEND button icon to drag & drop to my desktop.

G,Day,

I have an iMac 21" and use Applemail. However, my SEND mail icon has gone on the missing list and bringing up VIEW/ "Customise toolbar" does not contain the SEND icon so that I could drag & drop it to the righthand / top corner where it should belong. Any help would be gratefully received.

P.s. My Incoming mail has also stopped. Moderate P.C. Savvy.

Regards.

The send button only appears when you are working working in a new message or in a reply. It is not in the general message view.

Is it missing when you create a new message or reply to a message?

    Hello Duane,

Sincere thanks for your response. However, I have lost the "paper Dart" for the SEND facility even in "new messages" it does not appear when I need to send mail. It appears to be a common problem if you read the forums. I have also lost my incoming mail facility too. My wife called at the APPLE shop in our city & they were indifferent.

    Best regards.

That is hilarious and incorrect! I read the forums constantly providing help and support. I would argue that it is not as common as you believe since I have never seen it posted here.

Everything I said above is true.

And I have done a search and not found any widespread outbreak of this issue. The most recent question about it was in June 2015 but most were years before that.

Back to your issue... it seems that there are a couple of things that will make the send button disappear.

    • The SMTP (outgoing mail) server is not defined for the selected email account. Check this by going to Mail -> Preferences -> Accounts -> select the accout -> Account information and ensuring that the proper SMTP server is selected in the drop down menu.
    • The other case is that while a new message window is selected, you may need to go to the View menu and select "Show Toolbar". As you can see in the screenshot below, the send button is missing and the View menu has "Show Toolbar" as an option.

The send icon, <arrow in a box> disappeared this morning - i read through the preceding comments and then went to Mail preferences. By setting the default toolbar everything re-appeared.
