Q: Can anyone help me get clarisworks documents off a floppy disk?

Can anyone help me get ClarisWorks documents off a floppy disk? I have a floppy disk drive that works but when I try to open the documents I get an error that says "this document was created with an unsupported version of appleworks."

It sounds as if you have documents from an older version of AppleWorks and you may have some difficulty finding something to open them. Word Processing documents can be opened directly in Pages 4 (AppleWorks 6 only) but this is no longer available from Apple - the new Pages 5 (Yosemite required) does not open AppleWorks documents. (The older version is contained in the iWork '09 box set which may still be available from Amazon and other independent retailers.)

Panergy Software's docXConverter v3.3 ($19.95) can convert Appleworks 5 and 6 Word Processing documents to RTF (though it has been reported that it can only handle documents which contain only text, not those which include images or frames).

The latest version of the free LibreOffice(Mountain Lion required) has announced that it can open AppleWorks 6 Word Processing documents and an ability to open ClarisWorks documents has been reported: it does appear to be able to handle at least some embedded images.

You should start with LibreOffice and see whether that helps.

    Roger,

LibreOffice (currently 5.1.1.3) opens ClarisWorks 5 and AppleWorks 6 documents for me, and versions of them from Windows too. Word processing and spreadsheets.

    Hi,

I have a G4 tower that can run and is running OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard)

This is after Apple stopped the Classic "Emulation" app.

However it does have two external Drives as well as two internal ones that are partitioned.

    I can run OS X 10.3.9 or 10.4.11

It tell me in Start up Disk I can also Start up in OS 9.2.2 but this doe s not happen as the drives are not formatted from the OS to be "Blessed"

However I can run Classic and normally do this in OS 10.3.9

I also happen to have the complete Drive from my early Performa 400 from 1992 which as a version of Clarisworks copied on to the OS X 10.3.9 drive

I have not tried running Clarisworks this way for a very long time.

    I also have a a Macbook Pro ver 1,1 from 2006

This currently has Snow Leopard on it  (OS X 10.6.8)  and it could not run that many versions of the OS  but I might be able to get it to run the OS 10.4.11 version if I copied it to another drive.

    Summary

I store older versions of the OS as I Upgrade across all the machines I have.

As an option that might mean you have other ways of skinning this particular cat.
