Q: my audiobook playlists have disappeared in ios 8.4

I've updated to ios 8.4 on my ipad air and now any audiobook playlists don;t appear on my device. When i check via itunes i can still see them on there. Is there a work around?

Thanks.

    Hi

1.4 is out now, so hopefully all fully working again and iOS 9 compatible. If so, and it meets your needs, please do leave a positive review! If not, please let me know here, or via the app support email link in the store, and I will try and sort things out ASAP. Certainly it is all working for me now.

Fantastic App!! Suddenly, my Audiobook Playlist appeared in 'Music' again - I couldn't believe it at first, tested it on another phone, then bought the app!!

Whoah. Weird. I don't think that's what the app is supposed to do, but I had this happen to me as well - all my audiobook playlists were back in the Music app. They were there yesterday and I happily used them. And now they're not there again. I don't understand what's going on.

Well ... I found another method that works, at last in iOS 9.1:

    * add one or two music tracks to the audiobook Playlist

    * tell iTunes to sync music and select that playlist

    * make sure the book playlist is still selected to sync

You will now see the playlist with the music and the audiobooks in 'music'.

This doesn't work in the latest beta and neither does the AudioBook Browser app. However, when you tap on 'edit' in the playlist that now only shows the music tracks, all the audiobooks show up, but disappear again when you tap 'done'.

You can get the same result (your audiobook Playlist with all its tracks in the Music app) without having to add extra music to the playlist:

    * in iTunes, change the media type of the audiobooks to Music (Get Info - Options)

    * tell iTunes to sync music and select that playlist to sync (as Chrup says)

    * sync

The playlist and all the tracks you have changed to Music will then show up in the iOS Music App, with all the contents in the order you specified in the playlist.

Yes, changing all the files to Media Kind = Music is definitely one option. Unfortunately then you lose audiobook options like jump 30 seconds, or variable playback speed. Plus if you're using Apple Music or cloud sync for music or whatever it's called, the syncing process is going to get weird. Additionally, I've got lots of playlists that build on the condition "Music", and changing my audiobooks to music messes those up.

It's still a worthwhile option. Currently it's a dilemma about which way s*cks least.

The audiobooks show under iBooks after you purchase them. They are no longer under the Music app.

That's not the point. The point is that there are no audiobook playlists in iBooks. But, if you mix music (one song at least) and audiobooks in a playlist, all the audiobooks show up in the playlist in music under iOS 9.1. This no longer works in iOS 9.2 though.

that is exactly the point, iBooks now supports listening to an audiobook while you browse your library, read other books, or explore the iBooks Store. It shows all the chapters so you can jump around on your audiobook. The work around mentioned above to create a playlist make zero sense when the iBooks works

It works fine for you, if you have one or two audiobook on your device. I usually have about 30 - 40, and I want to play them in order of publication date.

How would you get these C. J. Box audiobooks in this order?

    Out of Range
    In Plain Sight
    Free Fire
    Blood Trail
    Below Zero
    Three Weeks to say Goodbye
    Nowhere to Run
    Back of Beyond
    Cold Wind
    Force of Nature
    Breaking Point
    Stone Cold

The best, iBooks can do is

    Back of Beyond
    Below Zero
    Blood Trail
    Breaking Point
    Cold Wind
    Force of Nature
    Free Fire
    In Plain Sight
    Nowhere to Run
    Out of Range
    Stone Cold
    Three Weeks to say Goodbye

But this makes no sense, since this is completely out of order. And _that_ is the point, not which application now plays the books. I couldn't care which app Apple gives us to play these books, as long as I can play them in the order I want to play them in.

Again...no big deal to do what you need it to do..simply of to iTunes on you iMac or MacBook Air or MacBook Pro (Any OSX device). Elect audio books. You can add a gazillion attributes to sort by from date, name, your own numbering system, what have you. You can even create a playlist right there and then synch it with your iPhone or IPod. Again you folks in these forums make such a big deal out of workaround solutions when non is needed. Way too often I come onto these forums only to go down a bunny trail and figure it out a much simpler solution that is built into the product.

    So walk me through this.

    * I have a playlist in iTunes on my Mac that contains these 12 audiobooks.

    * I synch them to my iPhone 5s, running ios 9.2

    * the books show up on ibooks and I can view/play them by category, title, author + title

    * I want them to be sorted by year of publication

According to you, this is a non-issue, so please explain to me, where to go from here.

I Have recently upgraded to iOS 9 and wish I hadn't as have lost my audio books purchased on iTunes- the new music app does not have the audio book option and although Apple say audio book now appear in I-books - they don't.  This is driving me crazy - any advice welcome.

IOS9 is rubbish. I wish I had not upgraded my iPad - it's slowed my iPad down considerably, I have lost all my audiobooks purchased from iTunes and they do not appear in iBooks

It's hilarious to come to these forums and find people like you insisting they have the answers or, as you seem to think, that there is no problem to begin with, when you either are not reading the posts or do not have the wit to understand the issue. Those posting here used to create playlists of multiple audiobooks which would then play in order without the need to do anything other than start the playlist playing. With Apple's switch to putting audiobooks in their iBooks app in iOs, they took away the ability for users to create playlists like that. These folks find that a step down from what they used to be able to do with audiobooks on their iOs devices. Despite your assertions you cannot play playlists of audiobooks without doing oddball workarounds or using thrid party apps so, YES, that is something those posting here consider a problem.

Your condescending advice is not helping, and worse you don't even understand the questions.

For those still looking for something more than a workaround or using a third party app somehow, Audiobook playlists do still sync and work on iPods like the classic or nano. Unfortunately Apple doesn't think you need the ability to play a playlist of multiple books in iOs 9. Having Audiobooks in iBooks is dumb to begin with... I never kept my audiobook CDs on my bookshelf. I kept them in my CD rack. These are sound recordings, not written words or images.
