Q: iBooks has suddenly stopped syncing between my iPhone and iPad

iBooks has suddenly stopped syncing between my iPhone 6s and iPad Mini.  Both are running iOS 9.3, and the syncing had been working fine for several days after I updated both devices.  Both syncing options (bookmarks/notes and collections) are turned on for both devices.  And it doesn't matter on which device I add a bookmark or note; it won't sync to the other device.

I've rebooted both devices and turned the syncing options off and back on, but I haven't been able to get it to work.

Any ideas as to what's going on?

Thanks.

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.3, also running iPad Mini on iOS 9.3

Very frustrating...  I guess I lucked up...   You might try getting help from @AppleSupport on Twitter...  They are very quick to respond..  Send a Direct Message...

Or the dreaded Restore.....  Not sure if it'll work, but it's a last ditch effort...  I'd try @AppleSupport first though...  and be sure you have a back up to restore from, of course.

This is ********. I paid good money for my iBooks, even though iBooks *****. I wanted to seamlessly integrate documents across all apps. I just wasted 3 hours trying to figure this **** out. Apple man... they're slipping. If you as a company monopolize every ******* feature and make it so that you have to work in your dumb *** eco-system, at least make sure your **** f*cking works! ********.

iBooks has totally stopped syncing bookmarks and page counts - it doesn't even seem to be keeping track of where I have actually read up to on any of my devices

    Totally rubbish

Same here. No bookmark or note syncing between devices. The problem started after upping to 9.3 on my iPhone and my iPad. I have since upped to 9.3.1 but the problem persists. Very frustrating.

Yes, no change with 9.3.1, still the same bug.

I have had the same issue. I also have this issue where I close out of iBooks and when I go back to read it starts the book all over again. What a pain if I forget to bookmark the last place I left off.

I thought putting everything in iCloud would solve this problem and it kind've has but I just got a iPad and it doesn't even show my bookmarks.

Aaaaand now my iPad has deleted every book I had manually added to iBooks over the past six years—well over a thousand books.   9.3.1 seems to have done more harm than good.

I wasn't having any trouble syncing bookmarks between my iPad Air and iPhone 6s, even under 9.3. However, I now can't sync between the iPhone and my new iPad Pro (9.7"). I talked to Apple tech support last night with no resolution of the problem after signing out and in again to each of my Apple ID accounts (one for iTunes, one for iCloud -- wish I could merge them!) and rebooting everything. To add to the mix, the bookmarks aren't showing up on my Mac, either.

I'm planning to call back again next week, after some of the rush of people calling about new devices has settled down. Last night I was told I'd have to escalate to the engineers, giving them permission to assign a temporary password so that they could access my information. I'm fine with that, but perhaps -- given the number of people having this problem -- there will be a solution by the time I'm ready to do that.

I have spent several hours on the phone with "Sr. Advisors" and the local genius bar had my machine for two hours. I have already been escalated to engineering. This appears to me now to be an issue with either the update or their servers. I am glad to know I am not the only one. I am very surprised that Apple support staff do not know this is not an isolated problem and let me know they are working on the issue. I could have saved hours of my time that I have now wasted.

Is it iOS or MacOS ?

    I have this issue too...

Does the syncing works between 2 Macs? That way we can know if it's an iOS issue or iCloud one.

Mine aren't syncing between my two macs or my two iOS devices. So, it appears to be an iCloud issue.

    So, we have to wait...

I think that with the new iCloud sync that sync pdf and imported epub. The iCloud servers have issues dealing with the big amount of data. It was the same with the beggining of iCloud Photos Library...

I was having the same problem on all my iOS 9.3.1 devices.

I went to Settings>iCloud>iCloud Drive>, then toggled off iBooks (only on my iPad Air ) and toggle it right back on, opened iBooks and highlights were then synced across all devices.
