Q: Official Apple watch charger gives Charging accessory not support message

I own 2 Apple watch chargers.  The one that came with the watch and a 2nd one that I ordered directly from Apple.  In the last 2 weeks both chargers are intermittently showing a message that charging with this accessory is not supported by Apple watch.  I have had the watch since launch last year.  I ordered the 2nd official charger a couple months after initial purchase so I could always keep one with me.  I have tried different outlets.  I've rebooted the watch. I have never gone swimming or taken a shower with the watch on.  I put the watch on the charger every night since it needs it.  It's a bit disconcerting to have invested so much in a watch, extra bands, and an extra charger and have this experience given that I have only bought from Apple directly.   I would appreciate any additional suggestions.  Thank you and pardon if I seem a bit frustrated.

    **Update** The issue with it not recognizing either charger as of this evening is now constant.  I am unable to update the watchOS to the most current version, 2.2, because it doesn't think it's connected to a charger.

    That your watch by a Apple store for help - I'm guessing the watch has an issue

    Hi

    When attempting to charge your watch, check that:

    • All plastic wrap has been removed from both ends and both sides of the charging cable (check closely on the head of the charger).

    • The back of your watch and the head of the charging cable are clean and dry (clean them with a nonabrasive, lint-free cloth).
    • The charging head is properly aligned with the back of the watch, with the concave / curved side touching it fully:
      • Some watch docks, stands, cases or protectors might hinder this.
    • If you are charging your watch by plugging into mains power:
      • Check that the USB connector on the Apple Magnetic Charging Cable is pushed fully into the USB Power Adapter.
      • Try using different adapters from the following:
        • The genuine Apple USB Power Adapter that was supplied with the watch, or;
        • A genuine Apple 5W (iPhone) or 12W (iPad) USB Power Adapter, or;
        • An Apple-certified (MFi) third-party 5W USB power adapter.
      • Try charging via USB instead (see the next step).
    • If charging via a USB port on a computer, ensure that you use a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port, the computer remains turned on and awake and the cable is plugged directly into the computer (not into, for example, an external keyboard).

    If the issue persists, contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available) or make a Genius Bar reservation with a view to having your watch and power accessories checked under warranty:

    Thanks LarryHN.  That is what I suspected should be my next step.

    I encountered this issue after upgrading to watchOS 3. The problem was that my Apple Watch charger was using the 12Watt charger that I got from my iPad. After I switched back to the smaller rectangular 5Watt charger, my watch started charging again.
