Mar 12, 2016 5:01 AM in response to gail from maineby Sarahlc10,OH my goodness!! I had to reply on this old thread: I have literally been trying to delete my iCloud which had a now non existent old apple ID linked to a non existent old email and I was stuck because of find my iPhone as well. 2 lengthy convos with Apple support, ample resets to factory settings, ample passwords changes on current Apple ID to see if it would eventually accept one. Nothing worked!! Then I saw the FaceTime bit on this thread, the 20th thread I've read I'm sure. Sure enough I entered my current Apple ID into FaceTime, went to find my iPhone and entered incorrect password until it prompted me to reset my password. Reset my password for my current Apple ID, it took me directly back to find my iPhone afterwards and find my iPhone turned itself off!!! Oh the relief. Then i went down and signed out of iCloud and it didn't prompt me for a password. I have an iPhone 6s Plus too so hopefully this FaceTime bit will still work for other current iPhone users!
Very very happy to see the back of that ongoing problem!!

Apr 3, 2016 9:54 AM in response to fromsouthby Rhonda1216,fromsouth, you weren't even paying attention before you gave advise. You are saying things like "verify that the account still exists" and they know for a fact the account does NOT exist anymore. I know this thread is years old, but I'm just now having the same problem with my 5c (April 2016). So far the FaceTime solution isn't working for me.

You will understand who is not paying attention later. Or you will not. Good luck

Apr 3, 2016 8:09 PM in response to Rhonda1216by gail from maine,Since this thread is years old, and things have changed dramatically since it was started, perhaps you can start fresh by telling us what your current, specific, issue is. What is it that you are trying to do, and what is preventing you from doing that?

May 25, 2016 9:34 PM in response to LUViNGMAMAby annacamilla,LUViNGMAMA, I love you!
Your solution worked. It seems those kind of weird workarounds should not work, yet sometimes they do...
So, I have an iPhone4 (old abandoned family phone that I am trying to revive). The AppleID on it did not seem to exist anymore, so I could not perform a reset. I could not log in to it with any AppleID password I could think of, and when going to iForgot to retrieve it, Apple did not recognise the email address as an existing appleid. (Despite the fact that this was the email that the AppleID on the phone seemed to be linked to.)
So, I went to Facetime settings, set an apple ID there (a functioning one that I now use on my newer device). Then I went to iCloud settings and tried to reset the phone. I was primpted to log in to the OLD AppleId as before, but I then used the password of the NEW, existing ID. And it worked! I can now reset the phone and connect it to the proper AppleID!
THANK YOU!

Jul 15, 2016 3:20 AM in response to dchampionby Bianca-raya,I don't know if anyone needed an answer to this but i had this problem and thought i would share my success.
i felt stupid after i realised but it said wrong password and then i couldn't reset my Apple ID because it no longer existed...
So i set up an Apple ID with that old email i couldn't access in my icloud and it worked cause i picked the password i wanted.
I hope this helps others
