Q: macbook pro trackpad problem

Do you know why this worked? I've had many days of trouble and finally after reading your post, I thought, what the heck, I should try this. And my trackpad was fixed in 1 second flat!

I know this is super old but after  much research and being so irritated this is the only thing that resolved my problem, this one little comment right here. I would be doomed without this because it would be so complicated and tedious with an Apple Store.Thank you sooo much now my trackpad isn't jumping and opening and closing random stuff. It was completely unusable until I found this.  My problem was that it had lint or something stuck  in the sides of the trackpad so it was being held down. Dude seriously THANK YOU SO MUCH I'm soo happy it was so frustrating for a few weeks, I could only use my tablet.         thanks again.

Buldging battery issue was my trackpad problem! The moment I took out the battery, all turned perfect.

After going an entire week with this problem, trying every solution imaginable, this did the trick. I'm dumfounded. Although, I wonder if this solution is related to the swollen battery problem. Perhaps the pushing of the trackpad is actually pushing down the battery temporarily. Only time will tell.

I have a 15" Macbook Pro (A1286 - mid 2012) that has developed an interesting trackpad issue.  When I try to use the trackpad, while not touching the computer, the cursor moves erratically and it is very difficulty to move it to a desired location.  When I am resting my hand on the case next to the trackpad (or basically exerting gentle pressure on any of the case surfaces near the trackpad) the cursor moves normally.  After reading other's posts it seems I need to check for a bulging battery.  I just wanted to know if anyone had any other ideas before I open the case.  Don't like the idea of "hitting" the trackpad in case the battery is bulging and this causes it to explode.

I had the same issue with my trackpad, so after reading your advice I checked my battery and it was swollen as you said, pulled it out and trackpad works a treat again. Cheers!!

Trackpad was nonresponsive after Latest OS update and I could not finish the install.  I thought my laptop was bricked until I ran across this discussion.  Using my hand across the trackpad worked and I'm now continuing with the install.  My fingers are crossed!
