Q: Mac Pro Late 2013 and Samsung 4k monitor problem

I have the new Samsung 28" 4k screen (U28D590D) and it has tearing along the right edge when used with displayport. Any way to fix that? I tried different cables (all DisplayPort 1.2 complient) to be sure and have narrowed the issue to the Mac Pro. The HDMI works fine tho only @30hz so is a bit laggy in normal interaction. There is no way to turn on Multi-stream as indicated and I hope it isnt that this screen will never work.

For me 10.10.3 doesn't solve problem with 60Hz. Have you done something different than usual or it showed up automatically after update? 2560x1440 resolution is enabled with hidpi mode?

There is still no solution for 2560x1440 with hidpi, right?

No, It appears, Apple cannot fix it. Still crashing. Starting to get angry here....

Somehow wondering about, why they do not just add some useful resolutions around 50Hz - everyone would be happy....

So I was able to solve the right hand tearing on the samsung U32D970q by using SwitchresX and creating a custom profile at 57 hz....  (and using diplayport)... but now there is a subtle thin tearing right down the middle of the screen.  Is my only hope on this to upgrade to yosemite?  This is such a drag Apple.  Its a work computer, I need to be careful about OS upgrades... these kinds of things should be functional.   Anyone have any other thoughts to solve the center tearing?  Thanks!

I am on a macbook pro 13inch mid 2014 and managed to get the U28D590 working for a 1920x1080 retina resolution (3840x2160 real resolution).

After upgrading to El Capitan, I lost the ability to do the same.

I disabled SIP to move the Display file profile where it should be.

That works and the file is valid however the setup that I had working seems to be ignored now.

Right now I am stuck at 2560x1440 (from what the OSD information tells me on the U28D590).

    Current file:

    MacBook-Pro:~$ plutil /System/Library/Displays/Contents/Resources/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-4c2d/Disp layProductID-b80

    /System/Library/Displays/Contents/Resources/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-4c2d/Displ ayProductID-b80: OK

    MacBook-Pro:~$ more /System/Library/Displays/Contents/Resources/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-4c2d/Disp layProductID-b80

    </dict>

    </plist>

I have tried enabling other resolutions by modifying the Display file above and but the monitor does not want to go beyong 2560x1440 (from the OSD).

Has anybody got that screen showing a 1920x1080 retina resolution on El Capitan?

    Thanks.

    borisnet-

what connection method are you using for this display? it can be tricky to get more than 1920 by 10180 out of an HDMI connection.

Mini DisplayPort (ThunderBolt subset) to Displayport should give you the best choices of resolutions.

    Hi Grant,

There is indeed no way to get what I want to do over HDMI. So I confirm I had the setup working on Yosemite in a dual U28D590 monitor setup both connected with displayport 1.2.

What I am trying to understand is what changed in El Capitan preventing me to just reuse the Display plist file I had for this kind of screen as right now it simply does not work following the upgrade to El Capitan

    Hi-

Where does this file go to get the desired resolution?  i'm getting 4k at 60 hz with mavericks use SwitchResX but there is a small tearing anomaly down the middle of the screen.  Is my only hope to upgrade to Yosemite?  Thanks for any advice.

No idea on Mavericks, but you can see if that looks the same as on Yosemite by looking at this thread - this post is a good place to start

So I've just dug into this thread and have gotten SwichResX working with my late 2013 Mac Pro, AMD FirePro D500 3072 MB video card, Samsung UD970Q monitor.

Successfully got it running on DisplayPort 1.2, 3008x1692 at 50Hz.

Now I want to play with scaled resolutions (HiDPI looks nicer).  How can I find the EDID of this monitor and how can I create this type of info for that EDID?

Thanks all for your amazing knowledge and detective work.

My 2015 mac book pro 15 inch retina is pushing dual 4k monitors (samsung u28d590d) at 3140 x 2160 @ 60 hz and man it looks awesome!  Actually it's so good that I scaled it back down to 1440 just to fit LESS on the screen!

I spent a lot of time playing around with different configurations and here is how I got it to work.

First, I tried to hook up these monitors using a mini display port to hdmi cable.  I quickly learned that the quality was there in terms of image but it could only run at 30hz.  As anyone who got to this point realizes- the mouse is jumpy, games suck, and it is generally annoying.

Using the straight hdmi cable is worse and you can only hook up one monitor.

But then- JACKPOT!  I came upon a mini display port to display port adapter!  That is your ticket!! Get yourself two of those suckers and then use the display port cable into the back of the Samsung and Yahtzee!!

Joevt - About a year and a half later I am running into the exact same problems with my external 4K connected to an El Capitan 13" rMBP. I was able to create a custom scaled resolution of 2560*1440 but it is at 60 hz.

If it is not too much work, could you advise how you would change the EDID below to have a native refresh rate of 30 hz rather than 60 hz? I cannot run any custom resolutions higher than 30 hz.

    Hi all,

I have an issue with my MacPro Late 2013. Currently its connect to a Samsung UHD TV (40hu7000) and my mouse and keyboard is slightly laggy. I'm running on Yosemite, with apple Bluetooth keyboard and a Logitech Bluetooth mouse G602.
Same UHD TV works great with my MBP 2015 with the keyboard and mouse.

Please help, using the Mac Pro with this mini lag is such a pain.
