Q: Coloured spotting on footage- Final Cut

Hi,

I'm experiencing coloured spotting that does not seem like dead spots in my video. It doesn't happen in the raw footages, only while editing in final cut pro and in the exported files. Link to video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gfk7ETSWNxs&feature=youtu.be

I'm using the latest version of final cut.

Would be helpful is someone knows the answer as it is exasperating!

Thank you.

Grace.

The above  are exports codecs used from within FCP X?

How about the original files? from a camera or imported from somewhere?

    Hi Al,

The original files are from camera, 5d mark 3 on 1920.

Our drone shots are done on 4k.

Does this answer your question? Do guide me if it doesn't.

    Thank you.

The 4K drone shots seem fine it seems to the 5d 1920 footage that is problematic.

Right now I have no explanation as to what the issue is.

Can you show screen shots similar to the below INFO of the Project and a clip from the Browser using the Inspector?

    Hi Al,

The problem seems to persist on both the drone shots and the camera shots.

Just reviewing the thread, I had understood that you had gotten the same artifacts when you used Pro Res. Not clear whether you transcoded the clips and then used them before importing and using them in the project or whether you edited H.264 and exported a Pro Res master file. Try a test clip – transcoding to Optimized. Edit it to a brand new project. How does that export?

    Hi Russ,

Thanks for replying to my desperation.

    1) Tried transcoding to optimized beofre importing: worked for the first 2 clips but the spots appears from the 3rd

    2) I tested removing the effects (colour correction) : now only the 4k shoots are spotting. Others are ok.

What did you use to transcode?

And is there any difference between a copy that is stored locally and the one played from the Web?

    Hi Russ,

I just re import the clip into the event. When importing, I check the optimized trans-code.

There is no difference between the copy on my compute rand the one played on youtube. I don't think it's an export issue because I am able to see it while editing in fcpx. I initially hoped that this problem doesn't occur when it's exported.

    It's quit a baffling issue.

Can you tell where the actual media files are stored and the formatting of the storage disc?

    Hi Al,

The actual media files are stored in Documents folder.

What do you mean the formatting of the storage disc? Where do I check?

    Thanks.

The Storage Disc is wherever you media files are located.

Right click the icon and select Get Info.

You will get something like this.

Format is highlighted in the screen grab.
