Q: Fan running all speed . CFPreferences could not connect to its daemon.

Suddenly my MacBook Pro  fan started to run all speed, something it has never done before

and it was in sleep mode.

I checked Activiy Monitor and Console

Nothing special in Activiy Monitor

In Console there is something that keeps repeating

(com.hp.devicemonitor[438]) LaunchServices returned a bundle URL that does not match with the LoginItem's known association.

and

CFPreferences could not connect to its daemon. Preferences using the connection 0x0 will be volatile and will not be persisted to disk.

Only restarting the computer couldn't stop the fan

After shutting down the MBP  the fan  stopped to run

I ran the recovery disk to see if something was wrong but nothing

What's happening? Should I be worried?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

    Try a SMC reset:

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

If no success, run an Apple Hardware Test:

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201257

Note that an error free AHT is not definitive.

    Ciao.

    Followed your suggestions, Thanks!

AHT didn't find anything but at the end the cursor froze and had to restart

Common reasons for the fans running at high RPM are running  'normal' resource intensive applications, runaway applications, failed temperature sensor or a corrupt SMC.  Do you notice any heat being generated that is higher than usual?

I thought about an abnormal use of some resources but could not find anything in Activity Monitor

    and in Console beside  this

(com.hp.devicemonitor[438]) LaunchServices returned a bundle URL that does not match with the LoginItem's known association.

    and

CFPreferences could not connect to its daemon. Preferences using the connection 0x0 will be volatile and will not be persisted to disk.

BTW after resetting SMC, now everything is back to normal

I'm using a fan controller, TG Pro, and everything seems normal

    and quiet.

It never happened before and my MBP is not one year old yet.

The interesting part is that the MBP was on sleep and at the touch was cold, not even warm

    What do you think?

Make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have the MBP evaluated.  Your warranty is still in force, so use it.  The genius bar technicians have better test equipment than the AHT.

    Ciao.

I too ran into this issue.

I turned on my rMBP 13" from sleep, nothing substantial was running, this CPU was 0.5% (checked in terminal "top" though, not "activity monitor"), and the fans suddenly started blasting at (what I could only imagine) is 100%.

I closed the lid and put the mac to sleep, woke him up, and the fan was normal again (0 rpm, but cpu temp was ~40, i noticed that the fans are not always on).

Did you find any explanations or solutions?

    regards,
