Q: Is Apple going to suspend the possibility to print Aperture Books?

Hi,

I printed an Aperture Books few days ago and I discovered that today (March 31st) is the last day to print Aperture document. Is it correct?

If yes, can anyone suggest me some walk around to manage this situation? I like this program and I would like to use it in the future.

Thank you.

Yes, Apple has sent out warnings to customers, that print products will no longer be supported for Aperture and iPhoto, only from the new Photos.app.

    You have several options:

    • You can save your Aperture photo books as PDF files and then take the PDF to a local printer and have them printed and bound or upload the PDF to a different service.
    • You can keep working with Aperture, but create your books in Photos to have them printed by Apple.  One way to pass your photos to Photos  would be to create an album with the photos you want to use, then export the album as a new Aperture library and to open this partial library in Photos for Mac.

The only drawback would be that Photos for Mac does not support custom page layouts. It offers plenty of themes, but we cannot modify the templates for the pages.

Apple sent out the warning together with the  last book they delivered; that has been reported here by several forum members, similar to this post:

On Aperture books, I think it is the end: I received a book designed on Aperture recently (one week ago) and I got a message telling me that after March 1st, 2016, it will no longer be possible to order a book via Aperture.

Hey, I received my last book in January and there was no message in it .Very disappointing. Photos is far too restrictive.

The warnings went out at some time in Februrary, included with the books delivered then.

The slow death of Aperture is to be expected, even if it is sad to see one of the best applications Apple ever made to be abandoned. But it is now nearly two ago (June 2014), that Apple announced that Aperture will no longer be developed, and all the feedback by Aperture users has been ignored. https://photoapps.expert/tips/2014/6/27/aperture-dead-long-live-photos#.VwesEGOv ag9

Hi, I also got a nasty surprise when I went to order my Aperture book. I have since tried www.prestophoto.com. The first book, although not as high standard as apple was very good, so I gave them a five star review and uploaded my second aperture Book, this one unfortunately came sub standard quality, murky, dark, lifeless, and I edit all my photos carefully. Presto Photo customer service however is excellent, perhaps they will resolve the problem of the poor printing of my second book. They have an upload feature for iPhoto books and Aperture books, which also stopped working so I uploaded my books through their photo book upload facility, a pdf for the front cover, a pdf for the back cover and a pdf for the interior of the book, produced by going to print book and save as pdf.

I have trawled the internet and at this time I think they are the only option. Would love to know if anyone else has found another company to print Aperture Books.

Got the book today (quick service).

I am quite pleased with the result. Although there is no dust cover, the book is essentially the same size as my Apple Books (11"x8.5") and the quality of the printing is good. My binding options were 11"x8.5" Imagewrap Matte Hardcover Press Printed Photo Book, Premium Photo Paper. I will try different quality paper for future books just to see the difference.

Once you have completed the book in Aperture, print to a pdf, then remove the inside dust cover photos and the blank pages. Save the cover and back as separate files and delete them from the body of the book. You upload the photo pages as a single pdf and then upload the front and back cover pages. remember to add the text on the binder and away you go !

The one thing to watch is the crop lines - photobook.pro will show you these prior to confirming your order and I had to make a few adjustments to the image positions and then reload the pdf but I forgot about the page numbers - these end up very close to the edge in the finished book. The workaround is to either print without page numbers or add your own as text boxes (a little tedious!).

As an amateur, printing books for my own enjoyment, I am happy with the result and will be using them again in the future.

Thanks, I've looked at them. Will probably order from them tonight. I do have a two page spread with one image, I've tried adjusting it to fit their guides, hoping it comes out well. Thinking of ordering the lustre paper.

    Hi jockybub,

I have just discovered that photobooks.pro IS prestophoto.com, same company.
