    Hi gebloom,

I understand you are missing text messages on your new iPad.  I'm not sure what you mean by "text replacements."  The resource below explains how to transfer content from one iPad to another.  Is this the process you used?

Transfer content from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device

    Take care,

    Restore from what?

An iCloud backup? A full password protected backup on iTunes and local storage on a computer that also contains a full iTunes Library with all your apps/videos/pictures/songs/etc.? The latter does contain all that's needed to reconstruct the full contents of an iGadget onto a newer/compatible device. The former, not so much.

Been there. Done that. 5 times already. iPhones and iPads.

I did finally realize that I could backup my iPad 3 to my Mac, and restore to my new iPad Air 2, rather than retry the slow iCloud restore. And it worked perfectly, as you suggested, with the bonus that I could select what apps to restore.  Thanks.

Under Settings>General>Keyboard>Text Replacement: create your own shortcuts. In my case, I had hundreds of shortcuts I created since the first iPad came out. They work with both the soft and external keyboards. I'm a terrible typist, and these corrections are a huge time saver.
