Q: My Time Machine states its unreadable

I'm still running Mountain Lion on my 2006 (yeah I know ) Mac Book and I just noticed this past weekend my Time Machine is not backing up.   I have a 2 TB Western Digital External Hard dive and it's not out of storage space so I'm not sure what needs to be done to correct the issue.  My Mac Book message I received when I removed and then re-connected is stating that the drive is no longer readable.  Is this due to the OS being used?

See if something on the late Pondini's troubleshooting page can help you http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html

WD site does have mac user support -- have you done a disk doctor check on the drive? And what is the percent of WB drive filled - and your hard drive.

Still running Snow Leopard - and my issue with Time Machine seems to have been triggered by the drive getting more than 50% full - and having rapid changes/deletes.

Am now leaning toward re-initializing the drive - as time machine acts weird at times - its great when you are doing a lot of picture repairs where multiple backups let you get back to the ones you want - but not so great when you are not that active.
