Q: delete wrong apple ID from the appstore login

when I try to update my apps on the ipad the box that pops up has the wrong apple ID in it and I can not change it no matter what I do.  I have re set the info in the settings and when viewed there the info is correct.  When I get into the app store I still get the wrong ID no matter what I do... anyone have any suggestions

FIXED: All you have to do is delete the apps that were downloaded from the old ID and reinstall them with the new ID. Wished someone had said that an hour ago. My name says it all.

Someone said it in the second response in this thread. And it was undoubtedly repeated multiple times in this 17 page document since it is the most standard answer for this type of issue.

Your user ID is only a reflection of your attitude....

I like using Apple products I have to say. So back off o the issue so maybe we can help someone else? It appears that some of my apps have been downloaded by a different Apple id. It must have been done in the past by someone else bc I didn't do it. So here is My question to you: how do I solve my real problem? How can you see in iTunes what Apple ID downloaded the app originally??

Gail, your response is pure Apple. Pure arrogance.  I'm so glad you work there

    Gail doesn't work for Apple.

Select the app in iTunes, right click - get info.

Well, first, I don't work for Apple. Everyone here unless specifically identified as a Community Specialist is a user just like you. We volunteer our time here, and the point I made was that your statement was patently false. "Wished someone had said it an hour ago"? Someone did....

And to answer the question which you now just asked, you find that out by going to iTunes on the computer you sync with, open the Apps view, click on My Apps, select an app, press CTL+I to "Get Info", click on the File tab, and it will show what Apple ID purchased the item.

For me I updated my apps individually through the iPhone. When I click the update button if it asks for the password for the old account I simply delete that app.

Once good advantage to doing this is I got rid of a bunch of apps I don't use anymore

Once I got rid of all the apps I had purchased under the old account, it no longer asked me for the old account password.

I think Reubenatrix was referring to the problem of what if it is a problem with OS updates, not iPhone/iPad apps. That's the problem I have.Somehow since I got this new Mac 2 years ago I accidentally got a 2nd apple id going, and some apps update with that one, others with my primary apple id.

No way to change it, so my workaround for now is I just attempt updates with each login until one works. Pretty annoying, but it's keeping me updated.

The solution does not change. You need to delete the application, remove it from your purchase list, and re-purchase using the new ID. There may be some migration pains but eventually it will iron itself out, of course if you purchase A LOT of apps through the app store this could be a big waist of money too, in which case you'll just need to grin and bare it.

In other words, If you purchase the app again with the new ID, it will use it to download (not requiring the credentials from the old ID).

hi Shashaness - Thanks! I hadn't transferred that solution that over to OSx in my brain very well....

but, I am unsure as to whether I can re-download Apple programs like iPhoto and Pages, those are the main ones in question for me.... Not positive that I care as I don't use most of those Apple apps much, but there may be one or two exceptions....

Thank you... I had to understand that the old Email was still attached to the App(s) account...It's still me... I just changed my Email...it still seems that if I change My Email...The app store still knows it's me. what a pain...The biggest problem was trying to remember my old password... and even sillier...my security question answers... but I figured it out... so now?...I have a iPhone 6-plus, lots of Apps ...half of which are associated with an email...I let go of 5 years ago! So silly...Apple Needs to fix that. BUT...the Good News... your link...to change the password...finally worked! So a big thank you for taking time to post and share here... it helps a lot of "non"-computer people who love trying to be computer people... lol... I love Technology... but I need it spoon fed...

    Thanks,
