Q: How do I set up Mail in my G4

Obviously, my G4 is very old but I just needed to access some files and wanted to email them to myself and while I can get on the internet it won't let me get on yahoo or gmail. It will open Mail but apparently the info for pacbell and .mac is old. Can anyone tell me the server info? Many thanks.

iMac, osX.3 maybe 4

Have you considered using a flash drive to transfer the files?

Part of my problem is that the files are in such an old version of word that I can't open them on my newer computers. I can open them in the Classic mode on this (old) computer and copy and paste them into an email, when I can get email to work. So I don't think putting them on a flash drive would work. I tried putting Yahoo into Mail but the OS is so old, X.3, that either I can't figure out how to do it, or it won't let me. I have a pacbell account but even though I've updated my password it won't accept it because I think the mail accounts must be wrong and ATT said Apple had to help me with that. The email for .mac doesn't even exist anymore so I can't use that. I just don't know what to do since I can't get Yahoo and gmail to work. I'm wondering if I should try to download a newer OS. I only have about 18Gs of memory (storage) left.

"I can open them in the Classic mode on this (old) computer and copy and paste them into an email."

If these docs were created in a pre-OS X version of MS Word that ran on the G4 in Classic, what version was it?  If you're able to copy and paste the text into the Mail program, why don't you paste into a new TextEdit document?  After that, choose to save it as a .rtf (rich text format) file.  That format should be compatible for a newer computer to open.
