Q: My iPad keeps on disconnecting from my wifi network

My iPad Pro 32 gigabit wifi with iOS 9.3.1, keeps on disconnecting from my wifi network. I connect and every so often it randomly just disconnects and sometimes it even makes me do the password again. I don't think it happens by other networks but I'm not sure since i don't really bring my iPad out too much. Please help me and fast! THANKS,  A proud Apple inc lover.

iPad Pro, iOS 9.3.1, Thank u so much in advance!

This has started happening to me recently too, I've got the iPad Pro for about a month. It may be the 9.3.1. update. It's apparently only happening on my home network though, and my Netgear R7500 (the worst tech purchase I've made) is notoriously bad on the 5GHz network because of the barely-supported Quantenna chip, which was abandoned by Netgear shortly after release, and as soon as they could they released a R7500v2 with another kind of chip for the 5GHz band.

So, I don't know who to blame, it's probably a combination of both. I also have problems with that router and my Nexus 6P, but apparently not with my other devices (iPad mini retina, iPod Touch 6th gen, iPhone SE, and various Nexus devices). The difference with the disconnections on the N6P is that the phone disconnects and reconnects, the iPad Pro doesn't reconnect, and exactly like you, sometimes it even asks for the password again.

Thank you for your help so far! I got the iPad Pro (larger size) as soon as it came out and it only started  disconnecting recently. I think it might be the iOS 9.1.3 update but I don't think it's my wifi because my other devices,an iPod touch 5th gen (which wasn't updated to iOS 9.3.1 yet) and my Samsung Galaxy s6 do not have this problem. I'm not sure what to do I don't bring my iPad out too much so I don't know if it is only with my wifi network. I have two questions: 1: Should I update my iPod touch 5th gen to iOS 9.3.1 or should I keep it on the version before to avoid this disconnecting problem? 2: Is there any way you know to fix this problem because it is really bugging be. I play clash of clans a lot which requires wifi connection. Thanks again for your help and if you are able to answer any of my questions I would be pleased! Thanks!

I don't have an iPod Touch 5, but I'm not having these problems with my iPod Touch 6, iPad mini retina (or iPad mini 2), and iPhone SE all of which are on 9.3.1 as well. Which router are you using?

    I guess you meant 9.3.1?

In any case does yours disconnect while you're using it? Mine only disconnects while it's sleeping, never when I'm using it. I leave it for hours on the table and when I come back it's disconnected from the 5GHz network. Doesn't happen with the 2.4GHz network.

Wifi connectivity issues usually have several components in play. A good idea is to first isolate the issue.

Does it happen on all wifi networks?

DO other devices have the same issue on this network?

is there any SW/firmware updates available for your router?

after that I would go into settings>wifi then select your network and tap the info button (an I in a circle) and choose "forget this network"

See if that helps. If not, go into setting>General>Reset then choose reset wifi and see if that helps.

You may need to change channels on your router if there is too much interference.

Have this same issue as well.

In family we have 2 x iPhone 5s, 1 x iPAD Air and 1 x iPAD Air II

Disconnection happens only with iPAD Air and started to happen recently, maybe after 1-2 latest update.

We had the same issue before, let say 2-3 years ago, but that was solved "automatically".

It just disappeared, assumingly with some of the updates.

Looks like a bug which has reborn

And yes, the latest firmware in all units.

Have you tried Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings? Also restart the iPad, see Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. Then connect to your network and see if it helps.

    Thank You Diana,

All that has been done, even several times.

Firmware of WiFi Router has been checked and it is this one iPAD Air giving headache.

Some years back saw a note that WiFi network name has to be visible or iPAD might lose it.

Have this seting in my router.

This might work. Check that your router WiFi is using WPA2-AES (CCMP) with no dual mode or TKIP. If it's not, changing to this might help.

    Hi,

Those are the setting I have ie. WPA2-AES

The router I have is TP-Link N600/TD-W9980 which has tons of setting options.

Ofcause it can be some of the settings which might fix the issue.

However, no settings were changed in this router. Everything worked until one of the iPAD iOS upgrades.
