Q: Time Machine won't back up

I am getting an Error message when I go to backup Time Machine.  It used to delete the oldest backup and then just back up my MACBook.  Now it says.......'

Files can’t be copied onto the backup disk because it is read-only. You may need to repair or erase the disk using Disk Utility. If the disk can’t be repaired, select a different disk for backups.  Using .OS X El Capitan  10.11.3

I don't want to buy another or erase this Seagate backup drive just want Time Machine to delete the oldest backup and backup the files with the newest data.  Please help!!

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), iOS 7.1.1

Your backup disk is corrupted, and it might be reparable using Disk Utility, though one of the more common causes of corruptions is a failing disk.  There is no particularly good choice here.   Repair the disk using Disk Utility and see if that works — and this assumes that the disk isn't failing, and that new corruptions won't arise as the disk continues to fail — or get another disk and start creating a new set of backups there.
