Q: Apple TV Shows in AirPlay Display list but unable to AirPlay

I have several Apple TVs, they all show up in the list of available displays to AirPlay. All of them work fine except for one. When I try to select that one nothing happens, it appears that I didn't click on it. This has been tested from multiple different Macbook Pros and Macbook Airs. This Apple TV also displays an overlay with a music note that say "Untitled" sometimes. I've updated my AppleTV to the latest version. I've restored to factory defaults. I've used a different power cord, network cable, HDMI cable and TV. It's still on the fritz.

I have multiple Apple TVs connected to the network, all them them work, except for one. The one that doesn't work does show up in the list of available AirPlay displays.

Make sure all the ATV's have unique names.  I had a similar problem with them all called Apple TV.  Once they were unique, problem eliminated.

They all have unique names, and I've changed the name of this Apple TV and it still doesn't work. In fact I switched this Apple TV for another one and renamed both of them. The other one that I renamed to this Apple TVs previous name works fine.

Dumb question, but have you enabled airplay on the problem ATV? Also, what version ATV is it, and what formware does it have? Is it a new unit, or did this problem just pop up? Is its network and internet configuration OK? That music note sounds like it's receiving only audio from your local network. Audio airplay works by actually sending the data from your computer to ATV over the network, while video airplay (not mirroring) just sends the url and the ATV streams the video direct from the internet. If you're trying to airplay an internet video, and the ATV cannot connect, I think it might behave like this.

It is setup correctly, and it used to work fine. I'm trying to use it as a display. It seems to have other problems though, twice today it has crashed.

From your posts, I think you have pushed all the available buttons...  Which one is not like the other suggests it's time to consider it has a hardware problem.

If an Apple Store is available, it might be worth it to have them restore and try to Airplay to it over their network before tossing it in the trash.
