Q: Using a windows burned data dvd on an imac?

I am wondering about the best way to transfer my files on my Windows 7 computer over to my new iMac. I have data burning software on my Windows 7 computer, which is Nero Express Essentials and am not sure if a Nero data burned dvd will be able to be viewed on my iMac. This is the first time I am going to be using an iMac. My iMac has El Capitan. Could someone please explain to the best way to the transfer files?

the file system used by optical drives is the same, many games like blizzards come with 1 optical disc with both the mac and windows version

but transferring files on a media as unreliable as optical media is a risk and a troublesome slow process it would be much much faster and safer using usb sticks, sd cards or external harddisks

Another reason not to use a CD/DVD is because your iMac 5K doesn't come with a CD/DVD drive so you would have to purchase an external drive.
