Q: OS X 10.11.4 freezing and/or crashing while using Safari

Hi everyone!

Have others experienced freezing and sometimes crashing of Mac OS X 10.11.4 while using Safari? Is this a known issue or is it just me?

The way this manifests itself is that scrolling and mouse movements suddenly start to get slow and jerky. Then, within 30 seconds to a minute, the keyboard stops working and mouse clicks no longer have an effect, but the mouse cursor will still move. Then it either stays that way indefinitely or the system crashes. The only recourse is to force a reboot using the power button.

This happens to me every other day, but I cannot reproduce it on demand. I believe (but I'm not certain) that the first such crash has occurred before the recent upgrade to 10.11.4.

This is on a

Mac mini (Late 2012)

Mac OS X 10.11.4

Safari 9.1 (11601.5.17.1)

Cheers

Mac mini, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

    Same problem here.

The more we call and send feedback the quicker they'll repair this bug.

I am surprised and disappointed to see how apple is blind at this. I spent hours on twitter chatting with apple support and on the phone speaking to so-called "senior advisor" : nothing.

Same problem here as well! The whole computer freezes randomly when using Safari or Chrome.

I upgraded to 10.11.4 thinking it was a minor update on 10.11.3 and my freezing problems started soon after. I had never experienced this before. It appears to  be linked to "Webkit" and possibly Flash Player as I see this a lot in my log .... then again my previously quiet console is now full of messages of all sorts since this late upgrade and I stopped getting web notifications!

I am hoping that Apple will solve this latest software issue that has been "imposed" on some of us. Unfortunately I also have another 6 months old Retina iMac currently in for repairs (Unrelated issue) and between the hardware failures and the software bugs, I am starting to lose patience with Apple.

I'll add a "me too" to this thread.

    I'm running:

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015)

    on 10.11.4 (15E65), Safari 9.1 (11601.5.17.1)

Graphics intensive sites such as imgur.com and most recently Youtube.com have been completely freezing my computer. It's happens daily but isn't easily reproducible as sometimes the pages load fine.

Your crash was apparently caused by an out of date Flash Plug-in. You need to update it or, better, uninstall Flash completely.

My reply pointing out that Flash was causing them problems was to LondonLaurence, not you. In any event I don't help people WHO SHOUT.

Similar to broozar. Happens to me, usually when I'm in safari, but also when I was working on an iMovie project.

Everything freezes up, including force-click trackpad, can't move the mouse.

Adding a "me, too." Frequent kernel panics or Safari freezing since El Capitan update.

MacBook Pro Retina, 13-in, mid 2014

    2.6Ghz Intel core i5

8G RAM, Intel Iris graphic card

xkx - I got an email from you thanking me for downloading the beta and saying that you would mark this a solved if you didn't hear otherwise in a few hours. Um, no, that's not what I said. I don't have access to the beta, and have not downloaded it. This is NOT solved. Please do not indicate otherwise - Apple needs to address this.

How can installing a beta ever be a solution ?

I agree, Apple really needs to address this.
