(El Capital 10.11.3) Air  iCloud Drive Folders were dragged to computer. They turned into aliases and are not empty of all my valuable contents. Trash was emptied.

When you drag a file or folder from iCloud Drive to the Mac (I have 10.11.4), the source content is removed. In fact, you are warned about this in a drop-down panel.

The actual file or folder (containing original contents) is placed at the drag destination, and no Finder alias is created. Even pressing the option key and dragging the item to the Desktop makes a copy of it on the Desktop, and again, no alias is created. If you in turn, move these items to Trash and empty it, they are gone for good, if you do not have a Time Machine backup solution.
