    Hello Tammyek,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

For more information on this, take a look at:

iTunes Store: Download times will vary

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1577

When you buy an item from the iTunes Store, the amount of time it takes to download your purchase will vary according to the file's size and your Internet connection speed.

    Best of luck,

    Mario

I have an 80 Mbps connection and it took 5 hours to download a movie with standard definition from itunes with my apple tv.  It took 3 minutes when I used netflix on my ps3.  Where is apple supports response to these issues....there are thousands of posts of people with the same problems?  Speedtest.net confirms my download speed is 80 Mbps!  I have reset and restarted my apple tv and download speeds of movies are still unacceptably slow!

I had the same issue. Rented a movie in 1080p from ITunes to my AppleTV and the download said it would take 3 hrs 18 mins and was stuck there for 5 mins. I simply went to settings>system>restart which solved my problem and the movie was immediately available.

    Hope this helps!

I Agree this is very frustrating. I have same issue. wifi connection is strong.Go to iTunes to rent a movie and get the purchase confirmed only to learn the movie will take 3 to 5 hours to down load befor we are able to view. I tried your suggestion on restart it that did not work. Hit view movie I purchased through itunes and it comes up " ready to play in 3 hours 47 minutes......?

I have a related issue, wonder if anyone can help:

Just moved to South Africa. We have a brand new Apple TV which seems to work fine. It is connected via our wireless router with excellent signal strength. Our internet connection is really slow, around 3mb - but for some reason our new free trial to Netflix (via Apple TV) plays content quickly and with no hiccups. However....the TV shows we bought on iTunes before we moved to SA take forever to load - up to two hours for a 55 minute episode. My question therefore is: How can Netflix be so quick yet iTunes be so slow ?? They are using the same Apple TV, connected to the same slow Wifi, so surely there shouldn't be much difference. My new Apple TV has loads of spare GB storage, so there shouldn't be a buffering problem. It is really frustrating.
