Q: iBooks has suddenly stopped syncing between my iPhone and iPad

iBooks has suddenly stopped syncing between my iPhone 6s and iPad Mini.  Both are running iOS 9.3, and the syncing had been working fine for several days after I updated both devices.  Both syncing options (bookmarks/notes and collections) are turned on for both devices.  And it doesn't matter on which device I add a bookmark or note; it won't sync to the other device.

I've rebooted both devices and turned the syncing options off and back on, but I haven't been able to get it to work.

Any ideas as to what's going on?

Thanks.

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.3, also running iPad Mini on iOS 9.3

Wow, this is a long thread. So let me join the party – no syncing in iBooks between iPhone and iPad for me either.

Done all the reboots, force this, close that nonsense.

What I've found telling in this thread is no comment from Apple. Aw, bless.

Yes, it's worked correctly for two days now for me.  After my initial post stating mine worked, it stopped except for sporadic success.  Okay now.  Very sad that I really don't have the same confidence in Apple as in the past.  I'm almost afraid of the next upgrade, which is a sad commentary...

Drat! Mine is still not working. Guess I'll be on the phone again to Apple in the next day or two.

nothing has changed. iPad not syncing yet. iPhone6S does, it always did. Same iOS, same iBooks version, different devices. Main library on Mac El Capitan 10.11.4

I was notified yesterday by a senior support rep that Apple fixed this issue. Requires a restart on all devices. Works great for me now!

Even a restart of all devices hasn't done it for me.

It finally worked. Here is the «recipe»...

(Disclaimer: I am running non-English iOS interface. Hence, the menu items' names bellow may differ slightly from the ones you see)

    on iOS

    1) Quit the iBooks completely (remove the iBooks from the running programs)

    2) Go to the «Settings >> iTunes Store and App Store». Choose «Apple ID» and logout from it.

    3) Login back to your Apple ID

    4) Go to the «Settings >> iBooks». Switch off «Synchronize bookmarks and notes».

    5) Launch the iBooks

    6) Quit the iBooks completely(!)

    7) Revisit the «Settings >> iBooks». Switch «Synchronize bookmarks and notes» on.

    8) Launch the iBooks. The notes and bookmarks must be synchronized now.

    on MacOS

    1) In the iBooks logout from your Book Store (iTunes/App Store) account.

    2) Quit the iBooks

    3) Start the iBooks again.

    4) Login into your Book Store account.

    5) The notes and bookmarks must be synchronized now.

I wish it had worked for me. I've done all of this before, but I tried again -- and again, my iPad isn't syncing to my Mac and iPhone. Phooey. I may just learn to live with it.

@Multilevel, thank you for excellent instructions,

if I may add item between your 6 and 7 go to settings icloud and make sure the drive is on and ibooks are on under icloud drive.

I do not use a Mac, but it also may help to do the same step.

My bookmarks synced same day, as I opened ibooks, no steps were needed, but I did check all sync options a few days before.

    No way.

    My iPads don't sync. Definitely.

    Guess they're too old.

Guess somebody'd like me to buy a new iPad soon!

I doubt that it has anything to do with your iPads being too old, igima. My iPad isn't syncing at all, either, and it's a brand-new iPad Pro (9.7" model).

I have no idea what to do, LTSilverman, since my iPad isn't syncing with my iPhone or Mac. However, my car's bluetooth is working, so I'm wondering whether unpairing yours and re-pairing it might help?
