Q: how to convert itunes music library to aac

The music in my itunes library is all MP3 files.

I would like to batch convert them to AAC files.

How would I go about this?

Many thanks,

Dave

I have to newest version of itunes installed.

Would this take up a larger amount of space?

iOS 7.0.6

Why do you want to do this?  You are just tyranscoding from one lossy format to another loses fidelity. See:

Getting iTunes & Windows Media Player to play nicely.

Also, most people - especially if using iTunes to play music on computer speakers or using standard headphones with an iDevice - won't be able to tell the difference between mp3/320 and aac/256.  Overall, the perceptible difference between mp3/320 and aac/256 is far, far smaller than that between these and any lossless encoding ... and there are many combinations of recorded music and people's ears for which even that difference is insignificant.

    YEs, you are correct javelina!

this whole idea started when I purchased a pair of Hi. End Headphones.

Then, I began to research FLAC and Apples lossless codec and wondered if I would hear a difference when listening to iPod Touch and these High End Headphones.

also read that the sound quality can only be as good as the Touch's headphone jack would allow.

Anyway, I have only listened to a couple of tracks and as I haven't done any side by side comparisons yet, I'm afraid the jury is still out on the matter.

But the size difference is amazing of course and we all know how Apple shafts us on that regard!!

when Apple Lossless Audio Codec is used when one is listening to a file on a Home Theater System, well, I think I can hear a difference then.

    Your comments would be appreciated.

    Thanks for the input.

You will get no benefit from converting mp3 files to ALAC - just larger files and in some cases a degradation in quality.  ALAC is appropriate only if you are starting from a lossless source such as CDs.

I Am starting from a Lossless Source.........FLAC files that have been converted to Apple Lossless Files so the latter can be played from an iOS device.

    Thanks hhgttg27
