    Hey there!

Mine is doing the EXACT same thing. I have no clue what to do.

Let me know if you find any answers, please.

    Thanks!

You won't believe this but a friend of mine (who happens to be an Apple Genius) told me to put a towel or cloth on a sturdy countertop (I know this may sound weird) but hold the selct button (in the center) and menu part of the wheel at the same time until an Apple logo comes up on the screen and then quickly turn the ipod on it's side and wack it on the counter where the towel is so as not to damage anything cosmetically. It seems the clicking is the hard drive reader is stuck and this dislodges it. Mine works now (no clicking) and all seems to be well again. Who knew?

I read this and thought "clearly a joke" or something, but for some reason decided to give it a try... and it actually bloody worked! My iPod was clicking and sort of looping and I kept getting the error display with a sad face. So I held menu and the middle button until it reset and then just as the screen went blank and the apple logo re-appeared and knocked it on its side (quite hard and without the towel cuz I was certain it wouldn't work) and tada! I then had to plug it into the computer and restore it.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks!

Well, 3 years later, and this unorthodox "fix" worked for me also!! Too funny!

...I was losing hope, I'm quite fond of my ancient iPod white click wheel 20mg, it's been tough as nails but i thought it had finally given up the ghost.  Couldn't just toss it.  follwed the advice and gave it a good solid whack.... Voila!  Thanks
