Hi, I wouldn't recommend using non genuine cables on Apple devices as they can cause problems. You also get the issue of non authorized product popping up on the screen which can be really annoying & this is because it hasn't got the necessary chip in the cable as its not genuine. The genuine cable is a bit more expensive than the non genuine but its well worth the investment as you wont be buying new cables every few weeks. It will work with ITunes and transfer data but I wouldn't be to keen charging my iPhone/iPad with one as it is possible they can cause damage. Its just not worth the risk.

Your issue with any cable is that when connected to your PC for data purposes, it will also attempt to charge. This is where a cheap cable may cause you issues.

Cheap non Apple cables are not necessarily built to the same standards. They may just be flaky and drop data, which is annoying but not dangerous. They may also overheat and damage your device or cause a fire. The risk is higher with non genuine accessories.
