Q: How do I set up my AirPort Extreme to 5G only?

How do I set up my AirPort Extreme to 5G only?   I live in a condo with too many wireless users who are in the 2.5 G band.  I want to jump all my systems to just 5 G so I don't have so much interruptions on the Wi-Fi connections.    Thx u.

You cannot disable the 2.4 GHz radio on the AirPort Extreme. At best, you can rename your 5 GHz network with a name different from that of the  2.4 GHz radio. You can then connect your wireless clients to the 5 GHz network. However, the drawback there will be that the higher band frequency has more difficulty transitioning through walls and you may not find the signal outside of the room that the base station is located useable.

If you decide to assign a different name to the 5 GHz network......

    On your iMac......

Open AirPort Utility (Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility)

Click on the picture of the AirPort Extreme

Click Edit in the smaller window that appears

Click the Wireless tab at the top of the next window

Click the Wireless Options button near the bottom of the window

Enter a check mark in the box next to 5 GHz network name. This will automatically add "5 GHz" to your normal network name.

    Click Save

Click Update at the lower right of the larger window

Now you will need to log on to the "new" network that you have created with all of the wireless devices that you want to use on 5 GHz only.

Now that you have switched to 5 GHz, can you notice a significant improvement in performance, or are things still about the same.....or even worse than before?
