Q: Audio from Mail will not play on lock screen since 9.2!

This is verified from a discussion with an AppleCare specialist last night, and it's a real bummer for me and people like me who get a lot of audio attachments (mp3 etc) and need to review them on the go. Used to be (up until iOS 9.1) that if you open an audio file attachment from an email in Mail and start playing it, then lock your screen, the audio will continue play uninterrupted, and additionally you can use stop/start controls from the lock screen on that audio. Now, when you lock your screen in iOS 9.2, the audio just stops! Yay for advancement! Additionally, when you switch away from mail to say, Safari, the audio stops too. Apparently the iOS no longer recognizes Mail as a background audio source. This is a SUPER BUMMER and really needs to be fixed ASAP.

 

So anyway, all just to say that if you depend on this feature, please do not update to 9.2. I really wish I hadn't.

    Thank you for ths, thought it was just me. Even written off icloud drive because of it but now I see Apple really messed that one up.

    I am thrilled i'm not the only one who noticed this and is very frustrated by it. It seems so minor but when you use audio clips every single day, this change is horrible, and I can only hope and pray that it gets fixed in 9.3. I've had to set my phone to not lock for 3 minutes and make sure to tap the screen every once in a while. If you listen while you're driving like me, this becomes a nightmare.

     

    PLEASE Apple. Fix this.

    Any word if there's a work-around for this besides setting lock time to 5 minutes?  Work in music as well, and it's really annoying!! Please fix!

    Same here ...Personally, I'm mainly bothered about iCloud Drive on iOS. Why has the capability to play in the background been stopped? This was an essential feature ...especially seeing that iCloud Music Library won't sync anything over 2hrs long or 200mb large. I was using iCloud Drive as an Apple Music overspill where the larger files could still be synced to my phone via the cloud. That was a bit of a rubbish workaround, and now I can't even do that. Surely Apple can return these apps to background audio capable??!!

    I've figured out the solution to the problem. If you manually lock your screen yourself, when the MP3 starts, it will continue you to play in lock mode. However, if the phone locks on its own, it will stop. Hope this helps...

    Hey, thanks for replying! ...Sorry to say tho that this doesn't work for me. The audio stops whether screen lock is manual or auto.

    I'm an iPhone 5S with OS 9.2.1 and this is the same with my iPad Air 2 as well. Bit rubbish innit?!

    Guys! They made it difficult for us musicians who need to preview audio from E-Mail servers, and have that audio play through the lock screen and app multi-tasking. The answer is this app :   "Unify - Cloud File manager"  It's an Iphone app so if you're on an ipad click the iphone app option to see it. You won't have access to attachments but you can start using the gmail drive to send the files. Can also see other clouds like dropbox etc from here. It's a little different but at least we can work around it for now. CHEERS

    Just wanted to let you guys know -- when you add an audio file to your notes, it will continue to play on the lock screen. Just discovered this today and I think it's the temporary fix I've been needing. Hope it helps!

    OMG I have been keeping track of this forum since it started and Im so glad we all kept this going as it is a verysmall community it seems.  I can't believe we finally found the solution this is glorious, now I can write my songs while I listen to beats again with ease. Thank you guys so much.  I never reply in forums like this but this is so Dope.
