Q: Updating points

Is work being done on the server today?  Based on the e-mails I received, I should be 29 points ahead of where I am currently, but as of yet, the site has not reflected that.  I know sometimes when there's work done it can make everything lag behind (not just that), so I was curious.

All of my points seem to have been awarded as of this posting. I keep the email notifications from helpful, solved and Recommended emails over the weekend and as far as I can tell, they all match up with the points.

That part of the "lag" seems over... now if they could only look into time it takes for choosing Login button on the Login page  to display the target page = 1 minute 12 seconds (on a stopwatch) for me this session - this an improvement in time from yesterday! > about 10 minutes!

Of all the facilities I miss, and they are many, the LIKE button is number 1.

I would have marked your post so.

Thanks, that's a nice thought and to me, a note like that is worth far more than a click on a button. My initial reaction to that button was that it was the first step towards gamification here (and I never did use it). Nowadays, every company/website invites you to "like us" - so what does it matter if 10,000 strangers who have no clue about what you do or who you are click on that button, some just do it in order to get a 10% discount? It's much like the infamous Facebook "friends" - I don't need 5,682 "friends" whom I've never even met.

You don't have to have any friends that you never met, I certainly don't.

Not having any actual knowledge since I don't have an account, I was under the (wrong?) impression that anyone could simply click something on your home page to be your "friend" - similar to a like button? And that is why Jimmy Kimmel has declared an "unfriend/get rid of superfluous friends" day once a year where he suggests that you purge your Facebook account of all these strangers who have no life unless they have/are everyone's friend.

Back to your original question. We're never told when changes are underway. From watching the Forum for a couple of years now usually Forum funkiness is a prelude to un-announced changes followed by unexpected consequences.

I think everyone whose name begins with S will be first to face the firing squad.  Seventy One, Seufert ... etc.   So Pinkstones is safe for a while.

Perish the thought. We'll be here to break the new crew in and in turn grumble about them.

Well, I don't have a Facebook account either because I loathe and despise Facebook, but from what I understand, you have to choose to accept them as your friend before they show up as such.  There are also settings within the site that allow you to set up how someone can "friend" you, whether you'll accept the friends of friends as a friend....that kind of stuff.  It's not like Twitter, where if you don't protect your account, anyone who finds you can follow you.  If you protect your account, they have to ask your permission to follow you, and if you deny it, they're you-know-what out of luck.

FB "likes" are much different than "Friends" - they ARE indeed a tally of anonymous folks 'liking' (agreeing with) what one has said.

the "Likes" here were much different than FB likes = NOT anonymous (for the most part) - clicking the parenthetic number beside the JavaScript link popped up a panel with a list of members, and a count of Guests, who "agreed" with the post (at least that is my memory of it... it has been a while)

I tallied 70 likes in this discussion. They were actually called "likes" when I received notification of them in spite of seeing "I have this question too" in the response block. So they must still register as "likes".

    Well, I'm doomed

honestly the points are so buried and hidden it's hard to know if they're being messed with or not.

LIKES still exist in USER TIPS = example > Requirements for Each Specialty Level  = a BUNCH =

also proves my "panel" popup memory (I knew I'd seen it recently!)
