Q: Delete Songs from Playlist Only

I am on my PC, using Windows 10 an iTunes 12.3.3.17

I am trying to delete a song from my playlist only.

Regardless of what I try, it's still there. I have clicked on the title & hit delete and nothing happens.  If I click on the three dots next to the song title and choose "remove from my library" it says the song will be hidden from iTunes purchases.  I don't want to delete it from the entire music library, just my playlist.  And I have checked and double checked to make sure I am on my specified playlist.

I'm sure this is a simple solution but I'm just not getting it tonight.

Thanks in advance.

    I suspect that you're viewing either a smart playlist ("gear wheel" icon in the sidebar) or a playlist folder.  In the first case you change the contents of a playlist by editing its membership rules; in the second you need to select a regular ("musical notes" icon) playlist contained in the folder.  Have you subscribed to Apple Music and/or iTunes Match?  I don't see a "Remove from my library" option when clicking on the ellipsis next to a song name - just "Delete" (which will always trigger the process to delete the song from the library, not remove it from a playlist).

    You are correct on both accounts. One playlist has the gear icon, the other a musical note. I know we don't have Apple Music and am pretty sure we haven't subscribed to iTunes match. I will have to ask my husband to be sure.  Is there a way I can tell by looking in iTunes myself?

    Edit:  I just looked under STORE & Apple Music was directed I could start a free 3 month trial and for iTunes Match I could subscribe or click "no thanks".  So I guess that means I have neither.

    You should be able to remove songs from regular playlists (musical notes icon) by right-clicking and selecting Delete.

    I think where I'm confused is I have two music notes:  The single note is the name of my playlist.  The double note says "music".   Both are listed under "my device".  When I right click either icon, I have the options to play song, play next, add to up next get info, show in iTunes store, new station from song, new station from artist & show in playlist with a drop down arrow directing to the double note playlist "music;

    These Playlist icons are in your iTunes Library.

    If you use Sync to manage your device, make the change in the Library and then Sync those changes to the device.

    Sorry for the late response.  Thank you both for your assistance.  I finally figured it out.

    I figured it out - click on the song you desire to remove - then click on those 3 little dots - at the bottom of that window you will see, copy - download - delete. That delete will delete the song from your playlist only .

    I hope that helps!
