Q: What is the best way to migrate from an Intel iMac to a 4K iMac
I’m getting a new 21" 4k iMac in a few days and I am wondering what the best what the best way is to migrate my old iMac to the new one?
Set-up assistant or migrate assistant, or transfer everything via time machine and then to the new iMac?
iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

Apple explains how to do this very thoroughly in Move your content to a new Mac - Apple Support. However, as Allan mentioned when you turn on the new Mac for the first time it will start Setup Assistant and get to a point where it is asking if you want to migrate from another Mac. Simply select yes, then connect your Time Machine backup of the old computer via USB to the new computer and follow the on-screen prompts. This is EXTREMELY easy to do. I don't recommend using a network connection and DEFINITELY do not use Wi-Fi!!!!!!!!!!!
