Q: Unable to Restart IPAD 3

After trying to install the free App of the Week via the Apple Store this morning, my Ipad froze up & rebooted itself. I watched as it would restart itself (showing the Apple Logo) and then just go to a black screen. I have been doing basic Google searches to find things I could try to get the Ipad back up & running. I've tried the forced reboot (Power & Home button). This results in the same booting to the Apple Logo & then going to a black screen. I've tried connecting it to my Desktop through Itunes. When I plug the USB cable into the Ipad will begin booting up & then go to a black screen. At no time does Itunes recognize the device. I have also tried to force the Ipad into Recovery mode by plugging it in via USB cable while Itunes is running while pressing & holding the Power & Home button to start it up & then just the Home button...but no Connect to Itunes screen ever appears. I have also tried this procedure on my wife's laptop just in case my version of Itunes or my Desktop was the issue...but the same thing occurred there as well.

I want to exhaust all possibilities before resorting to a full factory reboot as there are some photos & videos of our children that I am hoping to be able to recover. If anyone can recommend any third party software that may help there, I would greatly appreciate that as well. As this is an Ipad 3...the warranty on the device is long gone...so it doesn't seem like paying $299for an out of warranty repair would make the most sense at this point. I'm assuming that taking the Ipad to a local Apple Store would incur a similar charge as well.

As a side note...my Ipad was near its storage capacity...so I'm not sure if that could be part of the problem as well. Unfortunately...being unable to get this thing to reboot so I can successfully remove some Apps and/or back up any photos & videos isn't an option at the moment.

If anyone has any suggestions or guidance...it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks...

I'm not sure if this will help...but I was able to get my Ipad into Recovery mode after watching this Youtube video:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkVr5CxFiFM

It demonstrates how to properly get your Ipad into Recovery mode. After reading the instructions on how to do it...I was doing it slightly wrong. When I followed the way it was done in the Youtube video...I was at least able to get into Recovery mode. I am currently attempting to update the IOS in Recovery Mode. Hopefully that will solve the issues for me. Good luck!

No go on the first attempt. After going through the Update process...I ended up with an error message stating:

"The iPad "iPad" could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (27).

    This led to this page:

If you see an error when you update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support

Going to try a few more attempts.

Still having the same issues. Tried Recovery mode on both my PC & my wife's laptop...both came back with the same error 27. I'm going to try to do a little more research to see if there are any other options other than wiping it completely clean & starting over.

Still no resolution to this one. Have an appointment to head into the Apple Store tomorrow.

Took it to the Apple Store to talk to one of their technicians. He indicated that the Ipad was basically toast at that point...so the next option was to reset it to Factory Default & try to recover whatever was uploaded to the icloud servers. I was able to restore the Ipad & recovered what I had on the icloud server. It's up & running again...but I'm not sure what I might have lost as a result.
