Q: Locking Apps

I am a teacher trying to keep some children in my class off certain apps. I want to be able to lock the apps with a passcode. It doesnt have an inapp lock setting. Is it possible to download an app to lock the apps? I have downloaded and paid for Iapplock because it said it did what I wanted and now it hasn't worked =(.

    Howdy MissE35,

If you're looking to restrict access to certain apps on iPads that students are using, you might consider using the Restrictions feature in iOS. Restrictions can be accessed and configured via Settings > General > Restrictions, can be set to restrict specific apps, and cannot be modified without the Restrictions passcode that's set on the device.

Use Restrictions on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If your school has any IT staff available, they can also supervise those iPads and restrict the kids from being able to add other applications to them.  This is more drastic than the suggestion above, but good if you need additional control.

    Hello ma'am,

Apple has a software solution that grants you the tools you need for the task in question. The name of the software is Classroom, and it is available for free in the App Store. Classroom offers a robust feature set for classroom management as it relates to the use of iPads. I recommend that you speak with the IT for your school site about deploying this software on your campus. Below, I have provided the list of features as well as a link to download the app from the App Store.  Best of luck.

    Assign Shared iPads to students

    - Once configured, Classroom connects to nearby student devices

    - Classroom intelligently assigns students to the Shared iPad they most recently used

    - Log students out of Shared iPad at the end of a session to prepare for the next class

Start, focus, or pause student work

    - Launch any app, website, or book on student devices with a tap

    - Lock devices into a single app to help students focus

    - Lock screens to pause work or refocus your class

See what your students see with Screen View

    - See an overview of all student screens at once

    - Focus on a single student screen

    - Students are informed when their screens are being viewed

Share student work on the classroom Apple TV

    - Showcase the great work your students are doing to the class

    - Use AirPlay to wirelessly present a student’s screen

    - Students are informed when their screens are being presented

Reset forgotten passwords right in the classroom

    - Reset a Managed Apple ID password without calling IT

    Organize student devices using groups

    - Classroom automatically creates groups of students based on the apps they are using

    - Teachers can create groups to break students into project teams

    - Perform actions on entire groups or on individual students within groups
