Q: Mac Pro 2.66 ghz cannot reboot

My issue is with a Mac Pro 2.66 ghz The main drive died. After installing a replacement drive I made my 1st attempt at using the installer discs that came with the computer. The first disc worked without problem, but the second disc fails to install content because it appears to be scratched.

My files are backed up on a external drive but there is no clone with the OS available. I borrowed a 3 disc set with Mac OS X Panther. The computer will not reboot from disc 1. I held down the C key and I either receive a blinking folder or a black screen with text : I HAVE NO NAME along with some ethernet info. I also reset the NVRAM The computer is not connected to the internet. Could this something as simple as reformatting the drive and starting over?

I ran the fsck -fy command - reply COMMAND NOT FOUND. Also EXIT nothing

Any suggestions?

What specific model Mac Pro?
How to identify Mac Pro models - Apple Support
You said "I borrowed a 3 disc set with Mac OS X Panther".
Where did the disks come from? If they are gray then they can only be sued with the specific model Mac that they shipped with.
You can call Apple and order a replacement set of original disks.
You Mac can run Snow Leopard and yo can order a SL DVD

The Mac Pro is the 2.66 Quad Core 2008

The original great discs disc 2 is the one that is damaged. I have a set of OS X Panther black discs that did not help the issue. I guess I will need to contact Apple in order to purchase the original discs that came with the computer.

Any idea on what that would cost?

Maybe $20 or so. Why not order Snow Leopard?
It will still run all your old apps. Yo can then update to El Capitan for free

but many of your old apps will not work
Upgrading to 10.7 and above, don't forget Rosetta!

The 2008 Mac Pro can only run OSX 10,5,1 and later
