I understand you would like some videos that you have on your MacBook Pro to be added to your iPad. Syncing the device is one way to do that, but if you have never synced to your iTunes Library before, you will get the message you are seeing. So, the first thing I would suggest is that you back up your iPad if you haven't already done so.
Then try a different approach to sharing files between your devices. It is called AirDrop, and here is how it works:
Use AirDrop to send content from your Mac
Cheers!

Airdrop would have helped but my MBP dates back to 2011, just a year short of the model range that offered Airdrop.
My problem was that when I synced music to my iPad using iTunes, the videos I had on my iPad were deleted. Then I wasn't sure how to add further items to the music library of my iPad for fear this would wipe out the existing library. I am quite happy using iTunes to transfer my music and have been using it today to manually select the items I want on the iPad. This suits me fine. I have not tried transferring video to the iPad and will cross that bridge when I come to it. I imagine in iTunes, I can use ' Add to Library ' with respect to the videos and then sync both music and video at the same time. That might work.
My thanks again and my good wishes

I'm sorry the AirDrop feature isn't available for your current Mac, but do try it out with other iOS devices. It's a very cool feature!
Share content with AirDrop from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Another option for keeping videos synced automatically between your computer and your devices is to enable iCloud Photo Library on both.
iCloud Photo Library works seamlessly with the new Photos app to keep your photos and videos stored in iCloud and up to date on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, Apple TV, and iCloud.com.
iCloud Photo Library is available with iOS 8.3 and later, Yosemite 10.10.3 and later, and tvOS 9.2. You can also access your entire photo library from the Photos app on iCloud.com.
What do I need to use iCloud Photo Library?
You need an Apple ID, a device with the most recent version of iOS or OS X, and enough storage in iCloud to save your photos.
How do I turn on iCloud Photo Library?
If you want to turn on iCloud Photo Library on all of your devices, follow these steps:
- On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 8.3 or later, go to Settings > iCloud > Photos, then turn on iCloud Photo Library.
- On your Mac with OS X 10.10.3 or later, go to System Preferences > iCloud > Options next to Photos, then select iCloud Photo Library.
- On Apple TV (4th generation) with tvOS 9.2 or later, go to Settings > Accounts > iCloud > iCloud Photo Library.
When do photos and videos upload to iCloud Photo Library?
When you turn on iCloud Photo Library on your iOS device or Mac, your photos and videos will upload after you connect to the Internet with Wi-Fi and your battery is charged. You can see the status and pause the upload for one day when you follow these steps:
- On your iOS device, tap Settings > iCloud > Photos.
- On your Mac, click Photos > Preferences > iCloud.
Depending on your Internet connection speed, the time it takes for your photos and videos to appear on the Photos app on iCloud and all of your devices might vary. Make sure you turn on iCloud Photo Library on each device.
The iCloud Photo app allows you to upload JPEG photos that are less than 16GB in size.
Where do I see photos and videos in iCloud Photo Library?
You can access your photos and videos in the Photos app on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or Apple TV (4th generation). You can also use the iCloud.com Photos app.
Which photo and video formats does iCloud Photo Library support?
iCloud Photo Library automatically stores all of your photos and videos that you add from an iOS or Mac device in their original formats, including JPEG, RAW, PNG, GIF, TIFF, and MP4.
How many photos and videos can I store in my iCloud Photo Library?
The number of photos and videos you can store depends on your available iCloud storage. When you sign up for iCloud, you automatically get 5 GB of free storage, and several iCloud storage plans are available from 50 GB for $0.99 up to 1 TB.
The general resource for syncing (which is a one way direction from computer to iPad) is provided below. Your videos would fall under the Movies category.

Hope that helps ...
