Q: Can't change Mail accounts display order? + From behavior changed?

There are many quirks and backward steps in the otherwise excellent upgrade to Mountain Lion.

Howver, unless I am missing something elementary, why would Apple take out the ability to change the order different email accounts are displayed in Mail Preferences? My primary email account is now displayed at 6th or 7th in my list of accounts and I cannot drag it upwards as I could in the previous versions of Mail. That means every time I have to send an email, I have to use the pop-up menu and navigate to that account to use as the From address.

Any ideas on how to change the display order of Mail accounts? Thank you.

Agree with all this and PLEASE Apple fix it!  I have 20 email inboxes and need them to show in a certain order in my inbox list!

Adding to the list of what order is forced automatically by Apple Mail:

"After you get the order nicely set like that, if at any time you go into Preferences > Accounts and edit or add any accounts, the order gets reset to:

    1. iCloud accounts
    2. Exchange accounts
    3. Google/Gmail accounts
    4. Yahoo mail accounts
    5. AOL accounts
    6. then finally you can use your numbering edit of the description for Alphabetical IMAP and POP accounts

...so you have to re-do the order in the Mailbox list"

I managed to drag the header folders right on the folders list! It's a bit tricky but it worked...

Dragging them to a new order in the viewer window has always worked. But unless Apple changed this behavior in El Capitan, the solution is short term. Once you make a change to any account in Preferences, they all revert to the Mac selected order. I haven't tested it in El Capitan yet - so hopefully Apple has fixed this...and now it is working
